This guy is the voice for every nerd, spaz or love addict that could really never get over the girl you just couldn't have or keep around. This song is about the girl that broke your heart and wish to see everyday. But if you did see her all you could do is just die of fear. So instead you look at her profile on her social network page and just watch her develop on her profile pics. Then finally ask yourself "What if"

On the DVD, John introduces this song by saying, "So this is a song that I wrote a long time ago and it kind of fell out of fashion with me and then it kind of has fallen back into fashion with me a bit." This song is different from the original version in that he adds the last two paragraphs of lyrics to this version. The original version is said to be about Jennifer Love Hewitt. He performed this on December 8, 2007 and less than a week before it was announced that she was engaged to Scottish actor Ross McCall. This song could just as easily, however, resonate with him about dating Jessica Simpson. They had broken up in May of that same year. While I like to focus on John's career and avoid the tabloid BS, there's something very endearing about sending that message to someone he loved. Break ups can be strange for all of us and imagine if every time you saw a magazine at the grocery store, you saw your ex on it living their new life. Must be an odd mix of feeling disconnected and yet still connected. I'd write a song about it too! :)

When he was in LA with his girl she would give him directions because he didn't know the streets. "I love you, take a right" He goes on to say "10 and 2 are the loneliest sight." What he means here is that his hand are at 10 and 2 o'clock on the steering wheel. This is sad because he would usually be using one hand to steer and be holding hands with his girl.

Cuz you can "watch [your ex's] life play in pictures from afar [like at a different college or city]" pretty easily if you at least tried to stay friends after a break-up...or if your ex is a high profile celebrity like JEssica Simpson who's always in the tabloids.

At first I didn't care much for this song, it seemed too repetitive. But once I listened carefully to the words, it's become one of my favorites. Sounds like the old John we first heard from in 'Room for Squares'.

'And sunset says we see this all the time, nevermind, never you mind.' I love that part. You're always asking to anyone or anything who would answer for an explanation or a consolation.

And I agree, I mean in his case, yes, he follows their lives through magazines while I, on the other hand watch their lives through pictures on Facebook and stuff. Not that I'm a stalker hahah it's just like an automatic thing. As much as I know it hurts, I always find myself watching pictures of him.

Man, that's the truth. It's like, either way, you'd go home feeling awful if you went around there, because part of you doesn't want to face that person, and part of you does. Man, this is an amazing song.

i think he actually says "the 10 and the 2 is the lonely side", because thats the driver side, and you can sit on the drivers side by yourself, but if youre in the passenger side, there someone else in the car there with you. so if he was on the drivers side by himself, it would be the lonely side.

This song means everything to me and everything that I have been through. This is the song that you listen to when you meet somebody and you know you two will never ever be together and you know that you two will never see each other again and you know that because in between you two there is an entire Atlantic pool. You're thousands of miles away and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. That is what this song means to me.
