Two Masks (Poem) Lyrics
Two masks
One a princess one a witch
Both ridiculous and painted and blind
My eyes
Would fill the empty spaces
And bring about a total transformation
Artifice is the true realism
Deceit lives in the flesh
And will not show its face to any man
But give us a mask
And we will tell you the truth
I could not choose
So I will wear them both
The witch next to my skin
The princess next to yours
Which will you see first?
One a princess one a witch
Both ridiculous and painted and blind
My eyes
Would fill the empty spaces
And bring about a total transformation
Artifice is the true realism
Deceit lives in the flesh
And will not show its face to any man
But give us a mask
And we will tell you the truth
I could not choose
So I will wear them both
The witch next to my skin
The princess next to yours
Which will you see first?

But give us a mask And we will tell you the truth
the truth is easier to speak when we don't have to face the consequences
To me this song is about how the human race hides their true selves from the rest of the world. Most people keep themselves hidden behind a mask for either their own good or everyone else's.
This poem is beautiful. It's a warning for everyone. She wears both masks, the external is charming and lovely, the other is dark and dangerous. Both are the truth and both are lies. What is there behind them? No man will ever know. She only can express herself through artifice.
