This song is how I feel at the moment, I have just broken up with my partner after a year and a half... The guy I like atm seems to be more interested in other guys... so he is out there having 1 night stands and I'm out in bars losing out, not getting lucky... well not getting lucky with the right people.

I think this song might be confessional? Like the 'half of us' is literally them as two halves, and their experiences... and the differences in where they come from (heartbreaking sounds of your town, etc). The bits about happy accidents and referring to 'after they've gone' (i.e, when they're not in public) how they might be different to the personas they have...
