I think the night either refers to the darkness within or to the dark night of the soul. "Are you going to remain a slave for the rest of your life? Give into the night" is a way of saying that the only choice is to face the darkness or turn back and succumb to conformity.
Anybody who has devoted themselves to becoming their own person knows that the road is not paved, there is no indication of where it begins or ends, and there is no place to rest. It eventually becomes easier but there will inevitably be a time of confusion when a shadow blocks out the sun. If you fear the night you will stumble and die. If you embrace the darkness with resolve you will eventually find the light. This song embodies the moment of truth when the fate of one's soul hangs in the balance. "Are you gonna deny the savior in front of your eyes? Give into the night." This, to me, speaks of clarity within the confusion and a willingness to bear the weight of one's choices. Freedom is worth any pain or struggle one incurs along the way.
I love your post, even if it may not be particularly what I feel about the meaning, still great words ;-)... I think anyone who tries to make the world fit themselves, rather than trying to fit the world, experiences these feelings at one point or another. Though the path may not be paved, it is always much more rewarding when you make your own way, it just takes time.

This is a perfect interpretation of the song, and precisely what the lyrics mean to me. I especially love the last line in your post: "Freedom is worth any pain or struggle one incurs along the way." Thank you for deepening my understanding.

In a time, where freedom is becoming more and more scarce. It is refreshing to know that there is still people out there who truly know what freedom is all about.

As far as the meaning of the song. ArisenPhoenix is 100% correct. This song speaks about breaking away from status quo. It speaks about individuality and not always following the popular ideas.

Sometimes, even popular ideas are proven wrong. We must always be open to the possibility that there could be a much better way to doing things. That's what makes our species special. It's because we have intelligence and we can learn from previous experiences. (Even thoug, we dont always learn) Intelligence is double edged sword just as technology has brought many good things but it also has the potential to destroy us all.
"It has become appallingly clear that technology has surpassed our humanity. It is my hope that our humanity will one day surpass our technology." Albert Einstein
I think this song is about facing the darkness within.
Mark Twain once said "Every person is a moon, with a dark side which he never shows to anybody." There is darkness in every person, but we spend so much time trying to deny it and fight against it that we waste our lives in the process. The darkness is part of us, so without it, we can never be whole, destined to spend our lives searching for what we are missing because we can't believe that what we are missing is that other piece of ourselves that we are so desperate to deny.
I believe this song is about accepting that darkness within yourself in order to find salvation. It's about yin and yang, about finding harmony within the balance between good and evil, love and hate, light and darkness. It's about embracing the darkness within, in order to walk in the light.
That is seriously a great interpretation. I agree with you completely. The way you wrote it makes so much sense, I am just in awe at how well you worded it.

(By the way, I think my response kind of sounds a bit sarcastic, so I want to say I am serious and I don't mean it to sound that way... just to make sure you know that.)

This song is kick ass! It is one of my favorites on the new CD! I really can relate b/c I am trying to find the real me right now, but my family pressures me to be something else sometimes.
I totally agree with lakajj about the song being about someone trying to become their own person.
Great song!
My interpretation of this song is someone trying to become their own person and decide for themselves what they want to be and trying to resist the pressure from outside sources to conform to their beliefs.
Sorry, I realize I messed up one of the lyrics I quoted: "Are you gonna deny the savior in front of your eyes? Stare into the night"
Just a quick lyrics correction
It's actually "Letting my ARMOR fall again" instead of honor...
For me, the best song by Disturbed, it has grown into me like no other getting to my top 4 songs ever!
This song could also just be about giving into the power of the night. Like a person is being tempted to and is torn about becoming a vampire/lycanthrope. This is probably a quest for revenge for some wrong commited and the one who suffered is being told that they can have power beyond containing if they give into the power that comes with the night and being a creature assosiated with it.
Though I agree about the conformity issue being what the song is about I just thought I'd give another possible meaning ^^
The night doesn't have to refer to something dark, it could just mean something unexplored and therefore unknown, like this person's inner self.
it sickens me to know there are dumbasses like you in the world.
i think it is talking about someone standing up against oppression "are you going to deny the savior in front of you". This person is seen by the norm as a bad person or a shady character "the night" but this person is standing up for them selves and others "giving me the strength to face them"
