Q&A
Sunset, 1989 DEMO Lyrics
You never heard me knocking on the door
I found you balled up on your bathroom floor
You told me everything in your defense
And never understood the consequence
I won't console, when you have control
Every time's the last time, but I know you'll go and do it again.
Yeah, you'll do it again
There was a halo resting above your head then it slid down
Around your neck and I bet you thought I'd never find out 'cause
You think you're so clever
Again and again and again
You'll do it again and again and again
So, now we're all grown up and settled down
And you're the only one that's livin' in this ghost town
We try to keep in touch; at least pretend
I know we'll always be fair-weather friends, 'til the end
If there's a cause, it's already lost
'Cause I tried the last time and you tossed me aside again
But it won't happen again
I found you balled up on your bathroom floor
You told me everything in your defense
And never understood the consequence
I won't console, when you have control
Every time's the last time, but I know you'll go and do it again.
Yeah, you'll do it again
Around your neck and I bet you thought I'd never find out 'cause
You think you're so clever
You'll do it again and again and again
And you're the only one that's livin' in this ghost town
We try to keep in touch; at least pretend
I know we'll always be fair-weather friends, 'til the end
'Cause I tried the last time and you tossed me aside again
But it won't happen again

so i just joined this site to put what i think this song means.
i personally think that it's about friends.
"You told me everything in your defense and never understood the consequence"
i think it has something to do with a friend maybe doing something bad at one point and trying to justify the decision that they made. they didn't realize that what they were doing was going to cost them a friendship in the end.
"I won't console, when you have control, every time's the last time, but I know you'll go and do it again. yeah, you'll do it again."
how they say "oh it'll be the last time i do it i promise" but they know that the friend is just going to go and make the same mistake again. because things don't really just change in the drop of a hat.
"There was a halo resting above your head but it slid down around your neck and I bet you thought I'd never find out cuz you think you're so clever."
this might have something to do with how a friend was "acting" like being someone that they aren't or being two different people at the same time. and how they thought the other friend wouldn't find out about it but the one who's pretending isn't hiding it as well as they think they are.
"So, now we're all grown up and settled down and you're the only one thats livin' in this ghost town try to keep in touch; at least pretend. I know we'll always be fair-weather friends, 'til the end"
and last but not least, this is probably one of my favorite parts of the whole song. i think it's talking about maybe this one friend is living in the past of something the two of them used to have but they don't anymore because of all that's happened. and the one will keep holding onto it. and they can pretend that everything's ok even though it's really not. the "fair-weather friend" thing is like a friend how just comes around when the good things are happening to you. so in other words, it's not a real friend at all.
i mean that's my take on the song. i can be completely wrong, but that's what it means to me.
"fair-weather friends" kind of gave it away... i think its two friends who once had a relationship but fell apart after breaking up

I completely agree with crazymango6,
"You told me everything in your defense and never understood the consequence" Meaning, she tried to explain to him why she did what she did, refusing to believe what she did was so wrong, and she didn't understand why he was leaving her, or was mad at her, or was breaking up with her. "every time's the last time, but I know you'll go and do it again. yeah, you'll do it again." It's happened before, and he can't take it anymore, he's given her chance after chance, and he's given to her every time, but every time she goes and does the same thing. (Cheats.)
I think it's about cheating.
I fixed the lyrics. Here they are revised:
You never heard me knocking on the door I found you balled up on your bathroom floor You told me everything in your defense And never understood the consequence I won't console, when you have control Every time's the last time, but I know you'll go and do it again. Yeah, you'll do it again

If there's a cause, it's already lost 'Cause I tried the last time and you tossed me aside again But it won't happen again
i think this song is about a girl, cheating on her boyfriend and when she tells him and says sorry he leaves her. saying "i wont consol, when you have control" as in he wont forgive her when she has control of what she does. He wants to forgive her but he thinks she'll just do it again.
This songs definitely about getting cheated on "i bet u thought id never found out cuz u think ur so clever" ah thats so awesome i just dont get the title of the song
I think the title might be something we'll never know. Adam probably has his own reasons. And why anyone would ever cheat on him, I don't know.

I think it's all about suicide.
"You never heard me knocking on the door I found you balled up on your bathroom floor"
The friend of the one committing suicide is trying to stop his friend to do such act. But then, his friend doesn't listen to him.
"You told me everything in your defense And never understood the consequence I won't console, when you have control Every time's the last time, but I know you'll go and do it again. Yeah, you'll do it again"
I think he/she is trying to commit suicide by hanging herself. The halo is actually a rope or something.
"There was a halo resting above your head then it slid down Around your neck and I bet you thought I'd never find out 'cause You think you're so clever"
The friend tried everything he could, but he did nothing. It's too late. But he promises that this won't happen again with his other friends.
"If there's a cause, it's already lost 'Cause I tried the last time and you tossed me aside again But it won't happen again"
I love this song, it's so happy and his voice sounds amazing in this one. First I thought it was "I found you bald upon your bathroom floor" I think it means that he's thinking about a girl who did drugs, but he still loved her, but because of the drugs he got dumped.
so during this whole song i was just thinking of Blair Waldorf from the TV show Gossip Girl.
Blair is like perfect but is always compared to her blonde best friend Serena who's like a "goddess"
and since Blair's mom is a fashion designer she keeps on commenting on how she thinks her daughter is fat (but dude Blair is so hot) and always compared her to Serena and in one episode Blair's mother chose Blair to be like the face of her line but during the test photo shoot where Serena was at to give Blair support" ended up being the new face of the line.
Blair has a "love" Chuck who knows about her "condition" and feels confused to how a woman as perfect as Blair could ever say she's "ugly" or "fat"
so to me the one singing in the song is Chuck
so all in all its about Blair's bulimia and Chuck finding her and. . . . .you get it right?
I think that this song is about a christian's relationship with God.A backsliding christian..
"You never heard me knocking on the door." -In the bible God knocks on a person's heart asking if he can come in and if the person lets him in that means that he or she accepts God as their Lord and saviour.
"I found you balled up on your bathroom floor" -God always sees you when your in trouble or going through a tough time and he wants to help.
"You told me everything in your defense and never understood the consequence" -You tell excuses to God in why you did what you did or try to blame someone else for why you did it. but you don't understand the thing that will happen because of that acton that you did
"I won't console, when you have control, every time's the last time, but I know you'll go and do it again. yeah, you'll do it again." -the "i won't console, when you have control.." part, to me, it means that if Jesus is not the one guiding your life, he won't be able to help you or comfort you in your problems. and you will probably promise God that you won't do that sin again but he knows that if your flesh, not the spirit, is controlling your life then you will more likely than not, do that sin again.
"There was a halo resting above your head but it slid down around your neck and I bet you thought I'd never find out cuz you think you're so clever."
"So, now we're all grown up and settled down and you're the only one thats livin' in this ghost town" -All person's friends left her/him but God was and is always there
"try to keep in touch; at least pretend. I know we'll always be fair-weather friends, 'til the end"
-The person prays to God but its just those memorized prayers or the person reads the bible but doesn'r really get anything out of it he/she just reads the Bble so he/she won't feel that guilty about the sin they commited. But God will always be there for him/ her until she realizes that all she needs is God and everything in her life will be straightened out. "fair-weathered friend i believe refers to a christian that only turns to God when they're life is good or praises and worships God when life is good then when its bad he/she blames God.
If there's a cause, it's already lost. cuz I tried the last and you tossed me aside again, but, it won't happen again...
THIS IS ONLY MY INTERPRETATION OF IT.. IT MAY BE WRONG.. SORRY IF ITS REALLY LONG.. I JUST WANTED TO EXPLAIN EVERYTHING WELL..
