Incomplete Lyrics
One day I'll find relief
I'll be arrived and I'll be a friend to my friends who know how to be friends
One day I'll be at peace
I’ll be enlightened and I'll be married with children and maybe adopt
One day I will be healed
I will gather my wounds forge the end of tragic comedy
I have been running so sweaty my whole life
Urgent for a finish line
And I have been missing the rapture this whole time
Of being forever incomplete
One day, my mind will retreat, and I'll know god and I'll be constantly one with her night dusk and day
One day I'll be secure, like the women I see on their 30th anniversaries
I have been running so sweaty my whole life
Urgent for a finish line
And I have been missing the rapture this whole time
Of being forever incomplete
Ever unfolding
Ever expanding
Ever adventurous and torturous
But never done
One day, I will speak freely
I'll be less afraid
And measured outside of my poems and lyrics and art
One day I will be faith-filled
I'll be trusting and spacious authentic and grounded and whole
I have been running so sweaty my whole life
Urgent for a finish line
And I have been missing the rapture this whole time
Of being forever incomplete
I'll be arrived and I'll be a friend to my friends who know how to be friends
I’ll be enlightened and I'll be married with children and maybe adopt
I will gather my wounds forge the end of tragic comedy
Urgent for a finish line
And I have been missing the rapture this whole time
Of being forever incomplete
One day I'll be secure, like the women I see on their 30th anniversaries
Urgent for a finish line
And I have been missing the rapture this whole time
Of being forever incomplete
Ever expanding
Ever adventurous and torturous
But never done
I'll be less afraid
And measured outside of my poems and lyrics and art
One day I will be faith-filled
I'll be trusting and spacious authentic and grounded and whole
Urgent for a finish line
And I have been missing the rapture this whole time
Of being forever incomplete

"I wrote it about my having thought at one point, very seriously, that there was a finish line of sorts that I would arrive at. Then my nervous system could rest and I would arrive at a point where the rewards would come and until then I would have to keep doggedly working. I realized that that point is never to come and I best start living my life today as though there is no arrival point." Alanis - Nissan Live Sets on Yahoo! Music
Yeah, pretty much as #1 quoted Alanis, this is about how people see a finish line that they strive to reach, meanwhile forgetting life is happening right infront of them, every second we draw breath. So why not live now instead of expecting life to begin in the future? :)
the most human song i've ever heard, really!
I absolutely love this song..x Anyone can relate to it i mean this is what everyone wants is it not...x
Love the song and Alanis.x
Talk about existentialism! Anyone can relate to this song which speaks of life and how one finds fulfillment in his/her time here on Earth. I especially love the line "I'll know God and I'll be constantly one with her night, dusk and day" because of the gender-specific pronoun Alanis used. :)
An ode to the age old saying of "stop and smell the roses". Appreciating the moment, living for today, taking a breath...all things Alanis has written about many times over.
