In Praise of The Vulnerable Man Lyrics

You are the bravest man I’ve ever met
You unreluctant at treacherous ledge

You are the sexiest man I’ve ever been with
You, never hotter than with armor spent

When you do what you do to provide
How you land in the soft as you fortify

This is in praise of the vulnerable man
Why won’t you lead the rest of your cavalry home

You, with your eyes mix strength with abandon
You with your new kind of heroism

And I bow and I bow down to you
To the grace that it takes to melt on through

This is in praise of the vulnerable man
Why won’t you lead the rest of your cavalry home
This is a thank you for letting me in
Indeed in praise of the vulnerable man

You are the greatest man I’ve ever met
You the stealth setter of new precedents

And I vow and I vow to be true
And I vow and I vow to not take advantage

This is in praise of the vulnerable man
Why won’t you lead the rest of your cavalry home
This is a thank you for letting me in
Indeed in praise of the vulnerable man

I love this song off her latest album! For me, the song is precisely what she says she does in the title- praising the vulnerable man.

By calling males calvary, and therefore equating them to a species I think she is referencing the notion of "vulnerable species", where, according to wikipedia is: a species which is likely to become endangered unless the circumstances threatening its survival and reproduction improve.

She is saying how few vulnerable men there are left and how she wishes this one vulnerable man would set the example for all men to follow.

emlem, that's just stupid. cavalry are PEOPLE on horses. they're not horses. and even if they were horses, horses don't look like they're too far up there on the endangered species list. she's simply saying this man is a hero for being vulnerable (a military man in this analogy), and he needs to teach other men to be the same way. get a clue. and have a nice day :)

You r all wrong. Think! This w as written after a horrible break up where her idiot dude left her for a. Blonde bimbo. She's not "praising him or men" she is powered and the song is sarcastic yet subtly so. "You unreluctant treacherous ledge" hello people?

In a culture that is still primitive, paranoid, competitive, and survivalistic, vulnerability isn't something one arrives at by accident. People have to work very hard to get there... and =stay= there. "Flavors" may well be Al's most vulnerable album (especially in the bonus tracks), even though she herself set the standards for lyric vulnerability years ago and has kept raising the bar since then.

In "IPOTVM," she's simply giving to kudos to males who've put their boats out against the cultural currents as she has done, even if if we will never see all the chicken scratch in those journals she's filled over the years. At least we get the =flavor= of them. For those who really want to dig into this, try Pia Mellody's three books on codependence, romance addiction and intimacy.
