It's been such a long time coming,
I'd thought you'd understand,
That's over,
The hate of the last,
Will be joining in the sand,
Does it sift down,
On your own,
You must of known that we live down below,
I know you thought I'd sold my soul,
But it never took me to my place,
I just had to leave you go,
Blow this shit away.
I'd thought you'd understand,
That's over,
The hate of the last,
Will be joining in the sand,
On your own,
You must of known that we live down below,
But it never took me to my place,
I just had to leave you go,
Blow this shit away.

I reckon showdown's pendulum's statement to the drum n bass crowd after their shift of style into a completely new genre why else would the rest of the song be instrumental? it's like they're showing off their new style to the world. good on them
These lyrics have issues. This is what I think it says:
It's been such a long time coming I thought you'd understand That I'm so far ahead of the lines You've been drawing in the sand
'Cause it's simple You were wrong You must have known that we did not belong
I know you thought I'd sold my soul But you never told me to my face I just had to leave you girl To blow this shit away!
Honestly, 'joining in the sand' makes no sense whatsoever to me, whereas drawing lines in the sand is a common phrase--take the Alamo, for example. In other words, he's well past the ultimatums that she's been making.
That's my take anyways.
I thought it was:
Its been such a long time coming, I though you'd understand, (Dont know the next bit so I'm gonna go with what you have got) That's over, The hate of the last, Will be joining in the sand,
But its simple. You were wrong, You must of known what we didnt not belong.
I know you thought I'd sold my soul, But you never told me to my face, I just had to let/leave you go, And blow this shit away.
Well the official lyrics for the album is gonna eb on the site soon. I think its a brillant album and I love this song.
"But you never told me to my face" must be right. Not certain about the rest of it. Hopefully the official lyrics turn up on the site (Unless they're in the album booklet, I need to check that).
Is there a chance that this song is aimed directly at the fans? Sounds like they're apologising for how long it was between albums.
When i first heard this song, i immeditaely assumed that it was aimed at their 'critics'. 'It's simple, you were wrong, you must have known that we did not belong' Does anyone else think that this could be referring to the change of genre that they have been slated for regarding In Silico. Leaving the drum and bass behind and heading into their own genre? I think that the fact that it's placed as the opening track is symbolic, as the first thing their 'opponents' will hear, almost making 'Showdown' a statement.
"I just had to leave you girl?" maybe...
It's been such a long time coming; I thought you'd understand. That's over the head of the lines You'll be joining in the sand. But it's simple: You were wrong. You must have known that we'd end up alone.
I know you thought I'd sold my soul, But never told me to my face. I just had to leave you go And blow this shit away.
"That's over the head[s] of the lines [of people] you'll be joining [with their heads] in the sand." That's my take on it, and it sounds exactly like it. He's linking two expressions with the word "head."
Oh, and I definitely hear a "p" sound in the "you must have known" line, so that's what I hear. Pendulum saying that they're alone, purposely separated from the pack of other D&B bands.
"I hear... so that's what I hear." I'm an idiot.
"I hear... so that's what I hear." I'm an idiot.
I come up with:
-- It's been such a long time coming, I thought you'd understand. I'm so far ahead of the lines you'll be joining in the sand.
'Cause it's simple, You were wrong.
You must have known that we did not belong. I know you thought I'd sold my soul, But never told me to my face. I just had to leave you, go, To blow this shit away!
Suggestions? Add-ons? Changes? This song is defs about them breaking away from the Drum&Bass pack mentality and showing critics that they're more than just the stock standard of the genre.
