Death Take Your Fiddle Lyrics

I think I'll drink myself into a coma
And I'll take every way out I can find
But morphine, codeine, whisky, they won't alter
The way I feel the way now death is not around

So death take your fiddle
And play a song for me
Play a song we used to sing
The one that brought you close to me
Play a song and I will sing along

I think I'd like to take myself to heaven
Cause I ain't been there many times before
And Jesus Christ, if I don't know if I like it
Sadness struck a thousand times or more

So death take your fiddle
And play a song for me
Play a song we used to sing
The one that brought you close to me
Play a song and I will sing along

Think I'll drink myself into a coma
And I'll take every pill that I can find
But morphine, codeine, whisky, they won't alter
The way I feel now death is not around
The way I feel now death is not around
The way I feel now death is not around

I think the last half of the second verse is

And Jesus Christ, I don't know 'bout lightening 'Cause I've been struck a thousand times and more

May be wrong though. I love this song

@telecasterthommy You nailed it on that lyric. I believe you are absolutely right. I never would have got that.

@telecasterthommy You are absolutely right about that second verse and struck by lightning. No doubt about it!!

Yea tele your lyrics are correct.

This song reminds me of the movie "The Diving Bell and the Butterfly". In the movie a guy has a stroke, the breathing in the song just reminds me of that.

The sound of the respirator at the beginning is so eerie. I think this is the song he wrote about his battle with bilateral pnemonia. He came very close to death and had to be revived twice. When you come that close to death it makes you so much more spiritually aware. I know for me it did and I'm grateful for my experience. Anyway I'm sure his brush with death will add that much more beauty to his songs. He's absolutely amazing. I'm so mad I missed the opportunity to see them play a few years ago. Hopefully I'll get to see them sometime.

the "breathing" is actually an accordian being played without pressing the keys... and telecaster i agree w yer interpretation "...i dont know about lighting"
