Bound by the satisfaction of having the upper hand in the relationship, his significant other left him thinking that the scars she gave him would stay with him for the rest of his life.

He tells himself that the scars, the impact she had on his life was his own careless doing, and that nothing could not be replaced or healed.

But then he sees that she was making no bluff, and she really started to leave his life, drift away. He spent so much time trying to show her who he was, and he never wanted to more than now.

Everything he fought for in life has become latent and tasteless. He gives up on trying to show her everything he cared about and encourages himself to move on.

Trying to bury his feelings for good, he experiences the true weight the relationship had on his life, he realizes he doesn't know who he is anymore. He doesn't feel real.

Still, he cuts his losses and moves on. He realizes his scares may or may not go away, and all he has left to do is move on.

He realizes that he has to find something greater, something better to live for. And he does, he overcomes the wall of pain and loss, his scars have gone away. And looking up at him, she never thought he would have made it so high without her. He encourages her to move on with him, and they work to make greater life achievements together.

I think this is a great message, I really connect to it and I think it is a very mature perspective on dealing with lost love. Obviously, his words put everything much more in tune with the way things actually are. I don't think a lot of these things can be explained, only known, experienced, or felt.

Regardless of who you are, if you have ever felt life has become somewhat tasteless, boring, or even "lifeless" after having lost something you felt was worth living for, this song is a universal message for bettering yourself, and making a new life for yourself.
