Season of Illusions Lyrics

Obliterate the Sunday you've been cherishing all week
Obliterate the Sunday, he's a pleasure you can keep
I thought you'd let me speak today
But Esperanto's out of date
It's just another Sunday
Now Top of the Pops is dead

And if the morning gets you down
And then the evening lets you down
Obliterate the Sundays, fair play.

Obliterate the Sunday
Just keep your phone awake
Supposing wrong intentions won't make it easier to wake.

A season of illusions
A pocket full of doubts
A night of fading stars and a legacy of clouds

Obliterate the Sunday
The glass is out of reach
The heat was low, relief, you'll find a palm tree in your sleep.

Your hiding for months
Dodging the seas
You spent the day scheming
And your a houdini
Train has pulled out
Light has pulled in
A chance of escape
Come right up the street.

Obliterate the Sunday
You've been cherishing all week
Obliterate the Sunday
He's a pleasure you can keep

Season of illusions
Pocket full of doubts
Night of fading stars and a legacy of clouds

And if the morning gets you down
And then the evening lets you down
Obliterate the Sunday, fair play.

Your hiding for months
Dodging the seas
You spent the day scheming
And your a houdini
Train has pulled out
Light has pulled in
A chance of escape
Come right up the street

I'm suprised nobody has commented on this song yet, as in mu opinion its the best track off Velocifero by far

I'm sure that the lyrics are off a little. Or, at least misspelled if nothing else. It wouldn't be "And your a houdini" because that doesn't make any sense. Likely, it's "And you're a houdini".

Just wanted to point that out since R-Dot-Yung mentioned no one else was commenting. I don't know what else to say as I don't understand what the song actually means.

Well, im not as concerned with the songs meaning as much as i am the way it makes me feel when i listen to it...

But if i had to guess, Obliterating the Sunday for the character is the act of using her boy toy who bows at her every whim, when she's in a bad mood or facing rejection/dissapointment...

When shit comes her way, she can always Obliterate the sunday to try and make herself happy

makes sense to me, haha

All together I think this song is about a girl having feelings about a boy but it's a very confusing situation and she has doubts. As far as the whole "obliterate the Sunday you've been cherishing all week" I think it may be refering to time the two people spent together that just so happened to be on a Sunday and she maybe can't get it off of her mind and it was a big deal to her.

@MusicJunkie09 Agree on everything but "now top of the pops is dead" which makes no sense. Instead it should be "no topic, the boss is dead" which is typical of any day off like Sunday.

@MusicJunkie09 I retract my 2018 comment in whole. Top of the Pops was a popular British show. However, I do think the lyric "you're hiding from answer" is really "you're hiding from monsters", and "you're no Houdini" is really "you're a Houdini". :-)

I really like these lyrics. I think she just wants to spend a Sunday with somebody who is making excuses of being too busy ("just keep your phone away"). She wants this person to blow off, or "obliterate" their Sunday. This person spends their Sundays chasing "a night of fading stars and a legacy of clouds." They should stop making excuses ("you're hiding from answer, dodging the sea ").

It sounds to me like someone is feeling extremely trapped within their own life. But everything seems to point to it being their fault and any "escape" would be an illusion because they're the ones trapping themselves.

I agree - I think this a Deep Blue are related and talk about a workaholic that badly needs holiday time they don't take. When else do you keep the phone away (and yes, that is the lyric, not the printed one). She's telling him(?) to relax, do nothing, take the day off, do something useless like learning New Speak instead of "scheming" which is done all week. The last lyric to me suggests someone that is pulling frequent all-nighters and needs a day off because he can't pull off something impossible like Houdini.

I agree with Rictus, but specifically, this song is about the hangover you get after a really big Friday and Saturday night out. The alcohol abuse is a response to being trapped.
