Tomorrow Lyrics

i don't hate you or want you enough to wake you
there's a crack in the window, return of the key in ignition

so if you freeze tomorrow come back lucky
we said as your eyes were closing

there's a crack in the window, return of the key in ignition
but i don't hate you or want you or celebrate you

so if you freeze tomorrow come back lucky
we said as your eyes were closing
so if you freeze tomorrow come back lucky
we said as your eyes were closing

but i don't hate you or want you enough to wake you

so if you freeze tomorrow come back lucky
we said as your eyes were closing
so if you freeze tomorrow come back lucky
we said as your eyes were closing

we said as your eyes were closing
we said as your eyes were closing
we said as your eyes were closing
we said as your eyes were closing

so if you freeze tomorrow come back lucky

Death freezes our existence. Indifference. "If you freeze tomorrow", if you come back in our memories, after we saw your eyes closing as you faded away, you are indeed lucky. But we will all freeze tomorrow. And all the people that saw our eyes closing will eventually forget us, as they die as well.

I think this is about waking up with someone you slept with, since you got so intoxicated and didn't know what you were doing.

"i don't hate you or want you enough to wake you " She doesn't dislike the guy, but doesn't care about him enough to wake him up and try to get to know him

"there's a crack in the window, return of the key in ignition " She leaves, in her car

"so if you freeze tomorrow come back lucky we said as your eyes were closing" She's remembering them talking about like "wow this is fun, but we're drunk so we might not actually like each other. If we still are into each other tomorrow, we can always see each other then" as they were falling asleep.

And the lucky part, I think it's because they both felt lucky to meet someone they were so into. But they were drunk and she realizes that the next morning, she doesn't care for him at all.

Sorry that probably made NO sense but that's just what the song made me think of haha

My Interpretation

I believe the context at the start of the song is the tomorrow the song is about, but not necessarily drunk or even a one night stand . She already woke up and they (we said...) agreed to break up unless the weather was freezing (as in, whatever higher power you believe in sends it as a sign). The window of the car is cracked open, so it is not freezing and so she is further justifying leaving the guy she doesn't really have feelings for anymore.

I actually find this as one of their better lyrics, though still a bit...

i agree with nietzsche1899, that this song is about indifference. i think it's a bit chilling really. "i don't hate you or want you or celebrate you.." for me it makes me think of if someone you don't really care about is in a coma or something, and they are trying to decide to wake them or not. maybe they are saying that now only luck will bring them back.

I disagree. I see it more as being numb towards the person, not having any strong feelings towards them at all. Just neutral. They don't want them or hate them. Not both, neither.

i think this song is about jesus, how the church keeps telling you that he's coming back, but everyone knows he's dead, and stuff.

I don't know necessarily about the being drunk part, but it could well be about a one-night stand, or an encounter with someone at the time you felt into (for whatever reason), yet the next day will probably never really want to see again, not in that way anyway. If they freeze or forget about tomorrow and hold onto the feeling that night, then maybe they'll want to see each other again/have a repeat performance ;-)

Said that way, it's a bit like having a one nighter with an old ex you don't really care for but get caught up in the moment anyway.

had the same thought as hilary, but i like to think it goes a bit deeper. i like to think it's about feeling conflicted and not knowing what to do in a relationship - but fearing you're running out of time and the future could be slipping away. so you sneak out and let it lie and hope when things come back around you're luckier than before.

'The crack in the window' sparks your interest in that particular person, maybe, but regardless, there is a lack of concern towards that person - even if they eventually come back, unfrozen, and alive (after you freeze them, if you do). Take cryogenics, for instance, perhaps you will freeze the person - and feel guilty towards your choices of freezing them. (freezing - cryogenics - being a metaphor for stopping them dead in their tracks and causing them pain - but the guilt manifesting afterwards as a way to NOT be apologetic, so you don't die as well)

Or maybe it's literal indifference. You don't actually want to 'freeze' them and their memories- but if you hate them enough, you will want to see their heart stop (and if they 'come back lucky', they are a miracle). Indifference, guilt, hatred or distraught could all, in theory, make it seem as if they are 'frozen' from you by you holding up a psychological shield, without actually doing so. There is a difference between holding up a psychological shield and shattering somebody's memories for protection... etc.
