Satellite Mind Lyrics
Hold it I'm about to drop off
Let me tell you my last thought
Drift into a deep fog
Lost where I forgot to
hold it
I can feel you most when I'm alone
Coming home cause I want to
Hang out with a starlet
Stare up at the ceiling
Preview of a screening
Flashback of a feeling
Sick sense of calling
I heard you fuck through the wall
I heard you fuck
When I'm bored
I send vibrations
In your direction
Through the satellite mind
I'm not suicidal
I just can't get out of bed
I drift into a deep fog
Lost where I forgot to
hold it
I can feel you most when I'm alone
I can fell your ghost when I'm alone
Coming home cause I want to
Hang out with a starlet
Stare up at the ceiling
Hiding and revealing
Flashback of a feeling
Sick sense of calling
I heard you fuck through the wall
I heard you fuck
When I'm bored
I send vibrations
In your direction
Through the satellite mind
When your voice
Became vibrations
Through the satellite mind
Through the satellite mind
It sounded like mine
mine

Hey i just thought of something, maybe the funeral she went to was Heath Ledger's? She said herself in another interview that she was friends with him and she DID go to his funeral..

I think this song is personally about cheating in a relationship.
"coming home 'cause i want to hang out with the starlet stare up at the ceiling preview of a screening flashback of a feeling sick sense of a calling heard you fuck through the wall i heard you fuck when i'm bored"
This verse to me, what I get from it is a girl is getting frustrated with her significant other and is acting differently around him. She's suspecting him of cheating whenever they aren't together or she can't attend something with him. Paranoia/Clingy-ness essentially.
"i send vibrations, your direction, from a satellite mind when i'm bored i send vibrations, in your direction, from a satellite mind"
The chorus is essentially explaining guilt(of the guy) in a metaphorical way. She's could be really angry with her boyfriend and really letting her mind unleash her anger on him and it's like she's the reason he feels guilty. She's hoping that the reasons why she's angry are present in his mind and that he does actually feel guilty for the stuff he's done. Once again metaphorically, from her perspective.
"i'm not suicidal i just can't get out of bed i drift into a deep fog lost where i forgot to hold it i can feel you most when i'm alone i can feel your ghost when i'm alone"
I think this part the girl in this relationship is just confused about what she thinks, "I drift into a deep fog lost where I forget to hold it" which I think she means she is forgetting what he did and how angry she is, she forgot to hold her anger. The next two lines she's contemplating forgiving him and telling herself that nothing happend because she still has feelings for him.
"it sounded like mine"
"when your voice became vibrations from the satellite mind"
I think at this point in this little scenario, the guy is thinking about how clingy and paranoid the girl actually is and the girl(them two being in two different places) is realizing this and she starts feeling guilty just like he was and she is realizing that he is essentially doing the same thing back at her and it's the reason she feels guilty.
It's actually 3:30 in the morning, my apologies if that doesn't make any sense.. I actually am really tired and I went to see Metric today(coincedentally) so. Off to bed.
The song is about her carnal desire for a guy, and she masterbates over him. My thought is he lives next door but he already has a wife or g/f and she hears them.
"Sending vibrations in your direction through the satellite mind", when she's bored?
Laying in bed staring at the ceiling? Feeling his ghost when she's alone?
Preview of a screening, flashback of a feeling, sick sense of a calling...
The rhythm of this song is fantastic. It is great to run to.

I agree with the masturbation idea. To add to it though, I feel like this song is about a girl with depression ("I'm not suicidal, I just can't get out of bed, I drift into a deep fog") fantasizing about a guy, possibly her neighbor, but maybe not. "I heard you fuck through the wall" could be just in her imagination. A lot of the lyrics can be somehow related to depression. Just a few thoughts.

I've got a couple corrections, I think.
I'd split
i heard you fuck when i'm bored
into
i heard you fuck when i'm bored
She doesn't hear you fuck when she's bored, when she's bored, she sends vibrations.
First chorus should read:
i send vibrations, in your direction, from a satellite mind and if i'm bored i send vibrations, in your direction, from a satellite mind
And the last two lines of the last chorus should be:
in your voice came vibrations, from a satellite mind
You should all check out the lyric booklet. These lyrics are not correct. I'd suggest corrections verbatim, but I haven't got the booklet on me.
I agree

I found an article where Emily stated she wrote this song after a funeral:
"Among the songs the band is excited to play live is 'Satellite Mind,' which is very personal to Haines. "I told Jimmy that I needed this certain vibe and he created for me this music," she explains. "I had to take a very depressing trip to Los Angeles for a funeral. While I was there, I became totally inspired to write this song. I wrote it in my hotel room at five in the morning, and then on the airplane. Then, as soon as I got off the plane, came straight to the studio and laid down the song. That's a favorite one for me."

makes more sense now after reading that...i had originally thought it had to do with relationships/love
doesn't necessarily mean it was about the funeral
doesn't necessarily mean it was about the funeral
Try "drift into a DEEP FUNK" which makes more sense grammatically. "Deep funk" is a phrase meaning "depression" The line then means "I became depressed," which makes more sense in the context.
The song appears to about getting depressed (apparently after a funeral) and trying to communicate with the deceased friend. thus the "sixth sense call," "feel your ghost," and "send vibrations through a satellite mind" lyrics.
I am guessing the "heard you fuck through the wall" lyrics were just expressing frustration about not being able to focus in the hotel room, with unaware, happily-fucking people next door, but I have no evidence with which I could back that up.
I get the internet as satellite mind interpretation.
It makes me think of social networks like Facebook, especially lines like "let me tell you my last thought" and the chorus, "when I'm bored, I send vibrations in your direction from the satellite mind".
If you don't connect all that well with others in person, social networks can create that feeling from the comfort of your own room. "I can feel you most when I'm alone"
Maybe it's a stretch, I'm not sure how it would apply to some of the other lyrics, but I thought it was interesting. :)
i for some reason have always heard that one line as "sick sense of recalling".... it would go with the flashback of a feeling, a flashback of when she heard whoever fuck through the wall, right?
whatever. either way, i fucking love this song. it's fantastic... can't get over it.
