When I first heard it...I was like whoa. Her singing is def weird and different that her song "baby, come back" and her others. No offense I thought she was trying to sound more black and put more soul in her singing but it made her sound kinda retarded. Yeah, after a few times of listening to it, it actually became quite catchy and stuck in my head. The "basically what we're gonna do is dance" part is rly catchy. But yeah, as for the meaning, we all just wanna put our sneakers on one night and start dancing. Pretty true. It's a fun song though. Not meant to be taken seriously, of course.
People are always dissing this song. It isn't really fair because Vanessa had to sing it to promote the Eco Red shoes. This song it actually good, it's refreshing from all those songs about heart-break, boys and stuff. Singing about shoes, dancing and fun is what most girls would like, it's like taking a break from pain and boys. A lot think that 'basically what we're gonna do is dance' is annoying because of it's repetitiveness, but I think it's to emphasise the point of what their doing is simple and easy. Vanessa also state that for her second album, she wanted to try out different types of songs to sing. Personally, I think that's a great experience for her, singing differnt types of songs to find out her sound.
My point is, stop trashing her and her songs just because of her past.

This is quite catchy. Much better than her old stuff, I think. Obviously the meaning is uh, rather straight forward. (But very relate-er,able)
its not so much her singing i dont like.....its the repetitiveness of 'basically all we're gonna do is dance.' unfortunately catchy, but rather annoying..i aint a big fan, but it sticks in your head.
