I feel you, dundane. I'm stuck in a similar situation, except with my mother (I'm still a wee kid).

I really want to go into something with computers. Whether it's software programming, design, or game development, I love computers. But my mom wants me to do Pharmacy. Phooey. I don't want to have a well paying, easy, monotonous job. I want a job that I'll enjoy. I don't care if I'm paid little money. But I can't do what I want. She's living my life and not giving me another option. I'm stuck doing a million things I don't want to do, and I hate it.

This song reflects my present thought. I'm stuck on with expectations and standards that I have to meet, that I'm so welled up inside. I just want to do my own thing.

Sorry for adding yet another rant to the emo abyss known as Songmeanings. Even if none of you read this or care about it, it makes me feel better when I write this out. Strangely, not knowing any of you helps me. So thanks, strangers, and I apologize.

To me this song is just about having enough of what people want you to be and living your own dreams and no one else's. I can relate to this song and it is a great song.

Although I feel a bit juvenile posting what a song means to me, I just cannot stop myself from doing so in this case. Many of you have made great contributions regarding what you believe this song to mean, or what it means to you. For me, I've found myself battling an addiction to prescription medication for a number of years. I'm currently in treatment, and have the clarity to see that for so long I was living under the control of medication. I stopped spending time with family and friends, stopped my hobbies, and became a slave to a master whom I detested greatly, but was powerless to fight against. Recent;y, I've found myself looking forward to again being who I once was, and living the life I was meant to live. I suppose in the end my story is about a relationship as well; just with a drug and not a person.

I love this song. It says alot to me, as I feel like society is trying to make me this horriblr person. I have always hated people that tell me what I can do and be (school/government). Understand that they are needed but they feel like that to me. So this song means so much to me. it means to me that dont lose your self tring to live up to other peoples standeds. A good friend told me once at school that if she went up to the "popular group" that she would not be her and she would lose her friends. She has alreadly been through what this mean means to me, and all I have to do is think about her and this song to remind me. Don't go to others standards if you meet there's, then great, and if you don't, oh well it doesn't matter.
