I think this song is about just a bad realtionship , when she played this in the glasshouse , she asked "who in here has had a bad boyfriend?" , so to me it's clear . Amazing song as well .
i think the first two bracketed words are right: "strain" then "lines".
and perhaps "a hundred times around" for the stanza in the bridge.
