Psychosis

okay okay okay who is going to comment on this?? The whole way its presented reminds me a lot of Rob Zombie on some parts. Clearly not when he's lyrically singing, but a lot of everything else reminds me, during certain sections.

I have been a huge fan of Poets of the Fall even before their first album, Signs of Life, was released. I know every single song by heart and can understand what Marko means in his lyrics yet I battle with this one. On the PotF forums people generally think this song is about how fame makes life where you can't be alone. There's always someone there and it's like a religion. However, and none of their songs were ever about this before but, I feel this song is about drugs. Psychedelics to be accurate. Though I've never taken LSD it seems very much like a description of an LSD trip.

"And I see that it makes me anti-everything And I see that it makes me want to shed my skin Shed my skin"

for example. Or the chorus:

"Revelation leading to my psychosis and inspiration Digest another hallucination, psychosis by recreation Happy till the next deterioration Psychosis"

Some artists actually use LSD to allow them to be inspired to write not only lyrics but music itself, since it changes your perception so much. I don't think PotF does drugs but that's the only logical explanation in my opinion.

I'm kinda wondering what the meaning of this song is. People turning to their religion for answears when everything seems blurry? When things click wrong you want to see red which makes you a pshycotic person? Gah.

I think this songs about different uses for psychedelics, to some they can provide insight into societies issues and draw attention to blatantly obvious faults, as well as providing inspiration, artistic or otherwise, but to other they can be used as pure recreation which often doesn't end very well. but I suppose thats coming from someone whom likes his psychedelics.

I can't say I know what the song is really about, but to me, this song is about religion. "Digest another hallucination" is about how when things get tough for someone, they turn their back from reality and to their hallucinations of gods and deities in the hope that they will help them sort their lives out. It's a mental illness. "You can see anything there that you wish" sounds like the way people will manipulate the words of their holy book to justify ANYTHING; for example, the bible clearly shows homophobic, misodjonistic views, and yet christians are always trying to justify this.

Maybe its a mix of both religion and drug abuse. A lot of people dont realize why they do drugs (I mean myself as well, hell Im a pothead, lol) but the main reason why people turn to drugs is because theyre looking to fill a hole which can only be filled by having a relationship with God. Take John Lennon for example, the dude had everything he couldve possibly wanted but he constantly said he just "wasnt happy", that he wanted something more that he could never find. Thats because that hole cant be filled by earthly things but only by the love of God. So this song talking about a "New religion" or whatever could have something to do with that. Idk for sure though...

FINALLY!! A song with lyrics I get! (Or at least I feel like I do) I think he's talking about the constant ebb and flow of life. It goes from absolute high's to total lows and in effect puts us into a sort of psychosis.

But the important part is the chorus,

"And I see that it makes me anti-everything" Here I think the "it" he's talking about is life

"And I see that makes me want to shed my skin" This is the opposite value. Its that breaking point where you refuse to let the anti-everything aspect of life get you down, and as a result YOU take charge and YOU make something out of it.

I think if you look at the reference to religion as more of a reference to a generalized way of thinking you see the song isn't necessarily about drug use or religion but rather through taking all the adversities of life, overcoming them and defining your life on your own terms. Life is the psychosis, religion is the start of your own personal revolution against the norm so to speak.
