Gap Lyrics

So put a spanner in the works,
of your mind,
It's easier to work,
But I don't mind,
You're better in defeat so,
Just don't try
To take away all the things
so dear in my life.

I have to break down all
the corners of the world.
Don't heap this praise on me,
I know I don't deserve it.
But what's so this I see?
Yeah you're leaving right beside me,
And I miss you, and I need you.
I do.

But don't go, take my love,
I won't let you, I'm saying please don't go.
Don't go, take my love,
I won't let you, I'm saying please don't go.

Well leave your lover now,
it's your turn.
And see your mother now,
I hope she's okay.
You're better in defeat so,
let's not try
To take away all the things so dear in our lives.

I have to break down all the corners of the world.
Don't heap this praise on me,
I know I don't deserve it.
But what's so this I see?
Yeah you're leaving right beside me,
And I miss you, and I need you.
I do.

But don't go, take my love,
I won't let you, I'm saying please don't go.
Don't go, take my love,
I won't let you, I'm saying please don't go.

All of my life,
trying to understand.
All of my life,
trying to hold a hand.

I have to break down all,
the corners of this world.
Don't heap this praise on me,
I know I don't deserve it.
But what's so this I see?
Yeah you're leaving right beside me,
And I miss you, and I love you.
That's true.

This song is so beautiful. Luke's voice and lyrics always sound poetic. I agree that it's about losing their fathers. Maybe 'breaking down the corners of the world' is just getting on and exploring their lives without their fathers to guide them - testing their limits by themselves?

I would guess the 'see your mother' line is about their father's seeing their own mothers in heaven (or whatever is up there). I love that bit. When I listen to the song I still imagine it's about a girl because it feels romantic, and I always like the closeness of asking someone how their mother is.

The last verse is just the best though, especially the changing the lyrics right at the end.

I love this song. I haven't really figured out what exactly it is about though.

are you sure, kasi? what does that even mean?

don't put a spanner in the works means don't mess things up... like throw the train off the rails... you know what I mean? like don't rock the boat... kinda =P

spanner is a type of wrench. wrench in the works

so put a spanner in the works of your mind probably means pause your mind for a moment!....maybe!!

This song was written by Paul the drummer and its about the death of his father. Luke Pritchard said that this song means alot to him coz he also lost his dad.

to put a spanner in the works means to like deliberately do something that will prevent a plan from taking place

It definitely opens with 'so put a spanner in the works.' Not sure whether the next part is 'of your mind' or 'you're mine'. I'm fairly certain it's the former.

Could also be 'To take away all the things so dear in my life.'
