Kim & Jessie Lyrics
Kim and Jessie
They have a secret world in the twilight
Kids outside worlds
They are crazy about romance and illusion
[Chorus]
Somebody lurks in the shadows
Somebody whispers
Somebody lurks in the shadows
Yeah yeah yeah
Dream dressed in blue
It's all they need for now
And forever
Chased by the moon
They shatter their whole peace
With their singing
[Chorus: x2]
So we can drown our towns with voices
So possible to like it as one
And soon they'll be flying
Say of course, say you're lovely
[Chorus: x6]
They have a secret world in the twilight
Kids outside worlds
They are crazy about romance and illusion
Somebody lurks in the shadows
Somebody whispers
Somebody lurks in the shadows
Yeah yeah yeah
It's all they need for now
And forever
They shatter their whole peace
With their singing
So possible to like it as one
And soon they'll be flying
Say of course, say you're lovely

sorry to break this to everybody, no matter how much you want this to be about love, it's about a drug experience.
taken from m83's own website-
Best of all is "Kim and Jessie", the first proper M83 pop song. "A lot of people always tell me that M83 is always about melancholy music, so I wanted to write something happy with hooks, a bit kitsch," he says. "The lyrics are about two teenage girls having a drug experience."
I think this song is about how teenagers build relationships based on illusion, infatuation and fantasy rather than on reality. The somebody "Somebody lurks in the shadows" line of the song refers to the threat of reality looming around the edges of the relationship, how it will inevitably intervene and break down the world they constructed for themselves.
*sobering an illusional love
The lyrics seem fine to me... he's got an accent but the words are right.
In terms of what it means... seems like a love song... it's pretty simple. Not sure how someone lurking in the shadows is romantic. Great song though... a way-back trip for those who never quite got a taste of the eighties. Call it nostalgia without being old.
Not sure if these lyrics are completely correct... the vocals are quite ethereal.
Love the song though.
yeah its almost irritating how badly they pronounce words but great song when he says water, if thats what he says it soudns like whyater

I think the French accents are sexy and really add to that ethereal effect.

I agree with fuddypants. The repetition of the chorus seems to illustrate the point about reality sobering disillusioned love. I really like this song.

Yep. The "They pass a bottle like it is water, And soon they’ll be flying" part is pretty obvious. It' about hiding from the world and drinking.
this is like.. our anthem
Better lyrics without the insight about the drugs...the "somebody lurks in the shadows" is more mysterious without knowing it's about people doing something that's actually forbidden.
I do still think it's a love song though. I see the reference about passing a bottle, of course, but the line "crazy about romance and illusion" seems to direct the meaning more toward most people's interpretation, which is that it's a love song.
