Say I Won't (Recognize) Lyrics
We're having a party, everybody's swinging.
Tonight won't you come down?
Don't make me dance all night alone.
Call up your girlfriends to come out tonight,
I'll call up my best friends to come out tonight.
We'll put on our best shirts, our finest cologne,
And we'll turn the Casanova on.
Come on out Maria and lose the tragic,
Come on out Maria and we'll show you some magic,.
We'll meet on the warm sand and waltz out the twilight,
And watch the carnival lights explode.
We're having a party, everybody's swinging.
Tonight won't you come down out of your tower?
Don't make me dance all night alone.
I've seen you from the window around,
I can't get your perfume memory out.
So come on before we get much older,
And that could happen any of these nights.
So before we turn to ghosts on the mist of the sand,
Or fall in line for more conducive plans.
See, I never took a shine to the higher minds,
But I can hold the soft waltz down.
Meet me tonight, let's see what can happen...
We're having a party, everybody's swinging.
Tonight won't you come down?
Don't make me dance all night alone.
Cause everybody's shaking like the end of the world,
And everybody's waiting on the end of the world.
And I ain't got a friend, Baby, left in the world,
Don't make me dance all night alone.
Tonight won't you come down?
Don't make me dance all night alone.
I'll call up my best friends to come out tonight.
We'll put on our best shirts, our finest cologne,
And we'll turn the Casanova on.
Come on out Maria and lose the tragic,

"Before we get much older" is a line from The Who's Baba O'Riley. Not sure if Brian Fallon got i from hat song or not, but judging from his previous songs, I wouldn't doubt it.
The opening line is taken from the Sam Cook song "Having A Party". Wonderful homage.
Actually, it's from Bruce Springsteen's song, 'Southside Johnny', I believe.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it's from the song "Havin' a Party" by Southside Johnny and the Asbury Park Jukes. Don't think Springsteen has a song called southside johnny but he is linked with the group. Southside Johnny is another important band in the Jersey Shore sound scene, which I think Gaslight Anthem is definitely a part of. Great song and great band.

I've noticed the usage of the name Maria in most of TGA's songs. Is she Brian's wife or someone significant?
Maria is "every girl and no girl."
Maria is "every girl and no girl."
This may be an homage to the Counting Crows. Adam Durtiz sings, in one song, "There's a piece of Maria in every song that I sing" and has been known to say that "Maria" represents his feminine side. Gaslight Anthem has referenced a number of Counting Crows songs, so I'm sure the Maria meaning is not lost on them.

In Blue Jeans and White T-shirts he says "Call every girl we ever met Maria"

Brian says that no songs are about his wife. (though if i had to guess i would say virginia is.) i know mary is his grandmother
he says in one of his songs, "call every girl we ever met maria, but I only love virginia's heart" so yes to his wife and no to mary bein his grandmother..?
