Eruptions of fire and stone all around
They fill the air and shake the ground
And it's proving impermanence
The tortured landscape leaves nothing will be left alive

Bury my remains
Under ashes falling on my grave
Make me whole again
Give me the sight to see Your ends

Bury my remains
Cover up this body in decay
Make me whole again
Paint me on a brand new canvas

Not far from here, a place prepared
Can't find my way, send up a flare
Open the sky, show me the way through twilight

Bury my remains
Under ashes falling on my grave
Make me whole again
Give me the sight to see Your ends

Bury my remains
Cover up this body in decay
Make me whole again
Paint me on a brand new canvas

Even now I see a spark in the distance
A flicker of hope for peace and silence

This span is so hostile, won't last forever
This path through struggle will make me stronger
This span so hostile, won't last forever
This path through struggle will make me stronger

Bury my remains
Under ashes falling on my grave
Make me whole again
Give me the sight to see Your ends

Bury my remains
Cover up this body in decay
Make me whole again
Paint me on a brand new canvas

Bury my remains
Under ashes falling on my grave
Make me whole again

Bury my remains
Cover up this body in decay
Make me whole again
Paint me on a brand new canvas

While your explanation is pretty funny broken, I have to disagree. I've not listened to these guys for very long, but I guess that they are a christian band judging by some of their other songs. So...

I think that the first few lines have to do with the end of the world as said in Revelations. I dont know much about it, but it sounds like that's what it is. and I believe the second stanza to be this: Not far from here, a place prepared - I guess he means his place in Heaven made for him. Can't find my way, send up a flare - Now he is asking for the way to get there. Open the sky - Either referring to when Jesus descends from Heaven, or asking to open the sky so he can see heaven. Based on the first lines meaning the events in Revelations, I'm guessing its my first idea. Show me the way though twilight - Back to what I said, asking for the way to heaven.

it's not about aliens. i agree much more with AudioGlaive. i myself am Christian and i know that what's written in Revelations will all come to pass because it's God's Word, and every prophecy written in the Bible comes to pass. I think it's about the end times...the way to get to Heaven is through Christ- He is the Way. the way to live right is to live how Christ taught us to live- He is the Life. the way to seek and find truth is to find Christ, to accept Him and let Him be a part of your life- He is the Truth...that's what i say about it.

    My Interpretation

Cry of the Afflicted is definitely a Christian band and their songs are very prominent when discussing Heaven, renewal of the soul, and struggles in life. Here is my interpretation through each part in the song:

"Eruptions of fire and stone all around They fill the air and shake the ground And it's proving impermanence, the tortured landscape heaves Nothing will be left alive"

Interpretation: I assume that the band is talking about how much of a devastated state the world is in because of sin. Ultimately the sin we have will lead to our deaths.

"Not far from here, a place prepared Can't find my way, send up a flare Open the sky, show me the way through twilight"

Interpretation: I agree with AudioGlaive with this section. The band is definitely referring to Heaven. When the band mentions that it is "not far from here" He is implying that everyone has a chance to reach Heaven, it only takes one step if they want to take it (repentance of sin and following Christ). "Can't find my way, send up a flare" is another way showing the struggles during a Christians walk with Christ. He is asking God to illuminate his path so that he knows the right (righteous) way he needs to go. "Open the sky" to open Heaven, and show him what he needs to do.

"Even now I see a spark in the distance A flicker of hope for peace and silence This span so hostile, won't last forever This path through struggle will make me stronger"

Interpretation: The band is talking about finding hope through the struggles of life by following the "spark" and "flicker" (a reference to Jesus and the hope He brings). Then he mentions that the world (or the "span so hostile") isn't going to last forever and that he will overcome it. This is pretty literal and very strong words of having courage through desperate times.

"Bury my remains under ashes falling on my grave Make me whole again give me the sight to see Your ends Bury my remains, cover up this body in decay Make me whole again, paint me on a brand new canvas"

Interpretation: "Bury my remains" refers to God burying his sinful body, under all the sins that he may still be committing ("ashes falling on my grave")."Make me whole again" in other words, to renew his soul. "Give me the sight to see Your ends" means that he does not want to follow his own path to his own end, but God's path, to see the ending He wants for the singer (Heaven). He repeats himself and then he asks God to "paint [him] on a brand new canvas" meaning that he wants to be placed on a new slate; become born again as a new Christian.

Hope this helps. God bless. :)

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
