Open Book Lyrics
Eye's filled with fire
wish I was a better liar
it hurts when it's happening and so I cried.
The winter is here and cold
I guess could have told ya
that I am safe and warm from the hell inside.
Come on (karma)
Take me (take me)
Come on (karma)
Break me
I am an open book.
The drum beat of my heart is tribal
Oh the sweet sound of surviival
shall serenade this forest forever more.
The sun would have to be frozen
for anything out there opposing
not to be left in its own blood on the jungle floor.
Come on (karma)
Break me (break me)
Come on (karma)
Shake me (shake me)
I am an open book.
An open book.
When I sing a song of peace
it soothes a savage beast
even it understands that I understand at least.
So you mortals just keep this in mind
this is the way I'm designed
and I am no power so I'll only die one time.
Come on (karma)
kill me
You have (karma)
To kill me
I am an open book.
An open book.
wish I was a better liar
it hurts when it's happening and so I cried.
The winter is here and cold

First verse is definitely "The winter is even colder", second chorus sound to me like "Come on, fight me / Come on, strike me", and the end of the last verse is "I am no coward so I'll only die one time".
Great song.
Yeah, i also agree that in the second chorus, he's saying (shouting) "fight me" and "strike me". :)

I thought instead of "The winter is here and cold," he was singing "The winter is even colder?" Could be wrong, but that's what I heard.
Anyway, this song reminds me a lot of "Storm Coming," in that both songs are from the perspective of a person with some of mythic powers stemming their musical abilities. Obviously, this is more metaphorical than realistic power, and thus both songs seem to be commenting on the power of music. Here, that power seems more of curse than blessing. It is because of that power that the singer urges the listener to kill him, likely because he feels he has abused his powers in some way, or perhaps because he is an affront to the current musical culture?
Regardless, love this song and the rest of the new album.
This is one of my favorite songs ever for some reason
I think that he is saying that religious dieties or legends can be open to interpretation i.e. 'An open book'. God or anything that you beleive in is what you make of it.
I've always heard the second to last line in the third verse as "and this is the way i resign" which i also think fits better with the upcoming line of "and I am no coward so I'll only die one time". I can't figure whether or not he says "Martyrs" and not "mortals", cause once again i think "martyrs" fits somewhat better into the context of his death at the end.
Anyways, one of my absolute favorite songs! So much power and feeling, it's just great!
