In relation to this song I think it’s one of the best pieces on the album. And as for it’s meaning. . There’s some symbolism and imagery with the concept of the “serpent” (deception, trickery, manipulation..etc.) Imo, it’s just what I believe, and every song is interpreted differently by everyone anyway no doubt about that. . .AAHHH I’M BLABBERING AGAIN! T_T The song is about an individual who holds two personas. One, which is the real self. . The ego. . And the other the mask that they wear (Their face for the outside world). The ‘Ghost’ representing the person’s mask (which is clever metaphorical language since a ghost lacks of life and essence). A person’s false façade or the mask they wear for others lacks of life since it’s all-fake and manufactured. They’re not allowing their self to express their true persona (Therefore they’re not living). I think they’ve come to a stage in their life when they come to terms with the consequences of having a reflection or living the life of a person on the other side of the mirror .

Here the individual is saying to its listeners to not believe what’s on the surface and take a single truth they hear as the ONLY truth. . Because it can be a lie since nothing is certain in life.

“Me” being a reference to the person’s true self…their ego. He’s saying he doesn’t want everything about reality to affect his true self (possibly to keep their ignorance and innocence of the world) and that if anyone has anything cynical or realistic to say they should inform his other persona instead. . The mask he wears to keep himself protected from the truth. . And it’s because of his split persona, he feels because of this mask. . His true self doesn’t know anything (which didn’t allow for his being to give room for growth and wisdom.. because he’s been feeding all this information to the lie he created in order to keep his innocence intact).

Imo this song is about coward person, that hide behind the curtain, afraid of taking responsibility on himself its about every single man in this world f.e. u blame the chaos that happens in ur country/in ur house/ur city but u dont even raise a finger to do smth to change it u hide behind the curtain, wipe all worries, close ur cowardish eyes on REAL problems and continue ur pitiful existance its realy about most ppl in this world mb even bout me... i face it but i fear to recognize... look inside u... ur a just one kind of that Alias

This song is about human nature, our inner spirit, and our existance to acknowledge each other. We all live with eyes wide shut.

We're always wearing a mask to hide our truths, we become the perfect 10 that we want to be. Eventually reality will cave in with a double meaning while realizing you're still a perfect 10.

A person who is deceived or cheated, as by his or her own emotions or ignorance, or by the dishonesty of others, they speak in terms as how we hate to play the victim to life's riddle, its easier to run and hide(behind our mask) than to acknowledge that we are our in fact our own victim.

I would say A Sense of Purpose is their best work since Reroute to Remain. Too many people just assuming singers in metal or death metal groups can't/shouldn't sing. To each their own eh?

While I say this with almost every song--that it has multiple meanings--personally, I feel this song is more about a sociopathic personality/person. I put my interpretation of each line in parenthesis

The serpent knows, (the sociopath knows) When the curtain falls, (when he's been caught) In denials blindfold, (he lives every day in a constant denial) It greets another day (yet he starts a new day)

...ive done alot of studying on sociopaths/psychopaths and this song describles the emotional life of one perfectly.

Alot of times sociopaths/psychopaths realize they are doing wrong, but are incapable (due to underlying mental illnesses and lack of any real treatment) to stop their actions.

I think this song is almost sort of a "manual" of how a socio/psychopath thinks.

Either way, great song

Backstreet boys? C'mon dreskinkd, you cannot seriosuly compare In Flames to a pop band.

Alias is probably one of the best songs on the album, with a great intro. And I don't know what's the big deal; Frieden's singing in this song is great.

I certainly don't find anything wrong with his clean singing. Especially not on this track. If you don't like the new direction In Flames has gone in, then just don't listen to their new stuff.

This is their what, eleventh album? You can't expect them to stay the same forever. The album is called, "A Sense of Purpose," What did you expect? I like the album, and give Anders props on it.

In flames is one of the greatest bands ever!!!!! Any body that diss's them is stupid. THe only band i have a problem with singing is slipknot cuz cory sounds like a bitch lol. Hale In Flames!!!!!
