Molasses Lyrics

You are made of sugar
Milk and molasses
So little darlin' will attract all the bees
You are the gazer
You are the attraction
It takes a little vanity
To know what it means

I know it 'cause you wrote it down
A hundred times
But you say that you're doing just fine

Say there's something better
But today, there is a cold moon rising
And you wanted something better
But tonight, tonight, you're giving up

I asked a question
Give me an answer
You'll say the word
And I will disappear
You're running fast
But you can run faster
Heels to the dirt
Gonna make it clear

I know it 'cause you wrote it down
A hundred times
But you say that you're doing just fine

Say there's something better
But today, there is a cold moon rising
And you wanted something better
But tonight, you know you'll never find it

Say there's something better
But today, there is a cold moon rising
And you wanted something better
But tonight, tonight, you're given darkness

You can hear me
I will try to draw you near me
But in the morning
You will wake up alone
When your body breaks
Even the hummingbirds
Will feel the earthquake
You'll sing a song
Of your heart's complaint

Sing it loud, sing it clear
Oh, sing so I can hear you
Then sing it soft in my ear
Take it all or take half
Pull me down in the grass
I'll go anywhere with you

Say there's something better
You don't see it
You won't find it
Say there's something better
You can have it
But you won't get it

Say there's something better
But today, there is a cold moon rising
And you wanted something better
But tonight, you know you'll never find her

Say there's something better
You don't see it
You won't find it
Say there's something better
You can have it
But you won't get it

I'm pretty sure it's "When your body breaks"

I love this song :D

About a guy who is always complaining about trying to find a good girl, but because he's charming with good looks (made of "sugar milk and molasses") he attracts all the wrong-maybe-shallow girls (bees) who burn/sting him in the end. Even though he knows this, he still goes for these type of girls. The girl in the song is saying.. 'look.. I'm the good girl you're looking for, right in front of you', but he can't see it. "Say there's something better - you don't see it you won't find it - say there's something better - you can have it but you won't get it" -- that line about sums it up.

That's my take on it at least. Great song.

It's "Take it all or take half", Also it's ""I know it cause you wrote it down a hundred times" (you're missing the first "it", sorry I know it's small I'm just a bit obsessive :] ). And I'm checking the lyrics by the booklet from the cd.

To me the part that says "I know it cause you wrote it down a hundred times, but just say that you're doing just fine" sounds like an argument

ooo Sorry it's also "Heels to the dirt 'til you make it clear" "Darkness you can hear me" "heart's complaint" "Little darlin' will attract all the bees" "Takes a little vanity to know what it means" (there's no "it" before "takes") and "but tonight, you're given darkness"

I hate to disagree but I don't think this song is about complaints. It struck me much differently.

The boy (presumable composed of sugar, milk, and molasses) is the gazer, the attraction- a wonderful, sweet human being, but the last line 'it takes a little vanity to know what it means' suggests that the boy does not know what it means and that he is not aware of who he is. The pre-chorus reveals that the narrator is familiar with him and that she knows that something is wrong though he denies it. It struck as him having depression perhaps... Or at least that he is holding in things and not seeing himself for what he is and that he dances around the subject by never giving her questions answers. But even though she hopes he wil start to feel better there is a cold moon rising. Especially because she refers to him as 'Darkness'... it suggests that he has a 'dark' side about him. In the second verse as well, it seems to allude to him trying to escape his problems or his life by running fast. But- because he could run fast, he is still acknowledging their presence and the fact that they could do something about it... But he just hasn't got the energy to carry on.

It becomes obvious that the girl is in love with this shadow of a boy, but he is blind to her love. She wants him to see her and realize her or to at the very least feel or hope for somethign better than what there is at that moment in time.

Oh, and the 'singing songs of hearts complaints'- that part of the song- is talking about what it would be like if he were to let all his emotions and anger and frustration and sadness and confusion out. There would be so much that it would cause an earthquake. But she knows that he needs to open this bottle regardless.
