Drinking in the morning sun
Blinking in the morning sun
Shaking off the heavy one
Heavy like a loaded gun

What made me behave that way?
Using words I never say
I can only think it must be love
Oh, anyway, it's looking like a beautiful day

Someone tell me how I feel
It's silly wrong but vivid right
Oh, kiss me like the final meal
Yeah, kiss me like we die tonight

Cause holy cow, I love your eyes
And only now I see the light
Yeah, lying with me half awake
Oh, anyway, it's looking like a beautiful day

When my face is chamois-creased
If you think I'll wink, I did
Laugh politely at repeats
Yeah, kiss me when my lips are thin

Cause holy cow, I love your eyes
And only now I see you like
Yeah, lying with me half awake
Stumbling over what to say
Well, anyway, it's looking like a beautiful day

Throw those curtains wide!
One day like this a year would see me right
Throw those curtains wide!
One day like this a year would see me right

Like most of Elbow's work a simple, beautifully arranged & produced tune driven by Guy Garvey's poetic lyrics. I could be off, but I think the lyrics in this tune are more direct than most of Guy's work.

1st verse - awakening in a sunlit room the morning after a heavy drunk.

2nd verse - we went at it like animals last night and said words you wouldn't read in the bible... oh, well.

3rd verse - it's morning and I'm ready to go again... what started as a "one nighter" is still developing and the passion is intense.

4th verse - you're even more beautiful than I'd realized and I'm diggin' it!

5th verse - I'm thinking long term (flash forward)... about growing old together. I pass gas, you figured it out and I wink to confirm it. More gas passes and you smile. Thin lips referring to advanced aging.

The remainder of the song deals with the intense feelings of thinking of a future with someone he's just met and how awkward it would be this early in the relationship to discuss such things.

    That's my read on it!

A tune nicely done over about six chords... but lovely nonetheless!
