Mona Lisa (When The World Comes Down) Lyrics

Here's another pity
There's another chance
You tried to learn a lesson
But you can't

If we could burn a city
In futures and in past
Without a change our lives will never last
We're going fast

You can sit beside me when the world comes down
If it doesn't matter then just turn around
We don't need our bags
And we can just leave town
You can sit beside me when the world comes down

What can we do better?
When will we know how?
A man says from the sidewalk to the crowd

If we can change the weather
If you wanted to yourself
Well if you can't
I guess we all need help
I need help

You can sit beside me when the world comes down
If it doesn't matter then just turn around
We don't need our bags
And we can just leave town
You can sit beside me when the world comes down

We say,
We do,
The lies, the truth
And all I need is next to me

We're going fast

You can sit beside me when the world comes down
If it doesn't matter then just turn around
You be the queen, and I'll be your clown
You can sit beside me when the world comes down

You can sit beside me when the world comes
You can sit beside me when the world comes down

OMGGGGG. I posted my first comment at like 3 am. and decided later to watch fight club. and, there is a line, where Tyler Durden says, "Hey, even the Mona Lisa's falling apart."

All great things, masterpieces, they all end. Nothing lasts forever, not even the world. People can't stop this from happening. Maybe the title / lyrics refer to an acceptance of this. We all have to deal with things ending, so we might as well watch with our loved ones while they end, because it's out of our hands.

This song is perfect...see it describes my situation perfect.

This won't be the most beautifully orchestrated comment [I'm tired] but...

I have a friend [soon to be more I think] that's gone through it all. Me and her both. We've watched the city burn and we've seen so much change in our lifetimes. You learn that few things are for certain.

See there's a lot that points to us amounting to nothing but one thing we both love is roadtrips. So we decided to go to Cali for Spring break. We'll be driving coast to coast [North Carolina to Cali] and we don't need our bags. We just get up and leave [like we did last weekend when we went to Alabama on a whim] and all I need will be right next to me in the car.

Sometimes sitting back and watching it all is the best thing to do. Besides, if the world comes down we always have each other, whether friends or a little more :]

@Azraeille this was literally the sweetest comment I've ever seen on anything. Probably just because I relate to it so much. He and I don't really drive places but even just standing next to him I know that everything I need is right next to me. Someday I hope he'll be something more than just my friend, but I would wait forever for him. If being his friend is all I get, I couldn't ask for anything more. No matter what he is to me, I'm saving him a seat next to mine for when the world comes down.

I love this song, i think it's a really calming tune. I think it's about how like we as a species are making bad choices and destroying the planet, "we're going to fast" i think the lines. "here's another pity, there's another chance tried to learn a lesson but you can't" i think it means like what a pity, we keep doing harm to the planet and we never learn our lesson, we haven't changed much. i think the lines "what can we do better? when will we know how?" are talking about like what can we do to reverse what we have done.like how can we change, when will we know what exactly we can do. i think this song refers alot to global warming and the 2012 theory. but i think what makes it sooo good is that its not so much as focused on changing the planet. in the chorus he repeats several times "you can sit beside me when the world comes down" so as a whole i think the whole song is explaining the problems with our environment and that the artist feels like the world just might come crashing down one day. but he has somebody special in his life. and he really doesn't care much about what happens to the world as long as he's with them in the end. it kinda reminds me of seeing fireworks. like hey u can sit beside me and we can watch it together. and i definitely agree with whoever brought up that line from fight club. about how even the mona lisa's falling apart. i think he used it as a title just to kinda symbolize how everything will be destroyed.

I'm surprised not many people have commented this, but anyways, I think it's a pretty practical song. Change is important, it's not easy, there's a special someone in his or her life, and when utilitariunism fails, they'll have each other.

To me, almost all of the verses have some sort of allusion or reference to the novel "Fahrenheit 451" by Ray Bradbury.

The most obvious example:

"If we could burn a city In futures and in past Without a change our lives will never last"

This is a new song of there's that they've only played live like 3 times. So the lyrics probably aren't perfect. Correct me if I'm wrong.

One correction: "If we can burn a city in futures and in past"

Yeah. I don't have much to say but I feel that this song isn't accumulating comments fast enough so I will anyways.

Like whoever above me said, it's about change, but I like the sound of the song adds a whimsical kind of element to it. The title is all doom and gloom, and then it's like a surprise when the music starts.

Any ideas on what the title is all about?

I'm not sure what the title's about, but it caught my attention. It makes you think of the bad first- but when you hear the song your opinion can really be changed.

I love the line "You can sit beside me when the world comes down." It's like there's beauty in the bad that happens, making it good, so you can watch it and know that not everything is bad and there's a good side to things.

Just my opinion, I couldn't think of a better way to put it.

i agree with the above about the title, and it makes me love this song even more♥ it has a great beat, and i also love the line "you can sit beside me when the world comes down". personnally, it reminds me of how through all the change youll always have eachother, and also that not to take life too seriuosly. youll never make it out alive anyway ;)

i also love "heres another pity, theres another chance" its just saying that through life theres always us and downs, always. shit happens, but miracles happen too. (: love this song.
