Landing Gear Lyrics

hey little bag of sugar
floating in your bias-sphere
summon the courage
to put down your landing gear
and come out here

'cuz i am as exhausted
as a drowning polar bear
swimming around
looking for a ride
and it's so god awful hot outside

and quit kicking me in the rib
every time adam tells what he did
man creates woman he says
sweeping his hand through the air
like mister show biz

you're gonna love this world
if it's the last thing i do
the whole extravagant joke
topped in bitter sweet chocolate goo
for someone who ain't even here yet
look how much the world loves you
look how much the world loves you

candles are burning down
the music is fading
your pinnate is torn
it is time to be born
yes, and death is at the door
peddling that old fashioned
blood and gore
here at the house of creation
cue the sobering moment
of revelation

you're gonna love this world
if it's the last thing i do
the whole extravagant joke
topped in bitter sweet chocolate goo
for someone who ain't even here yet
look how much the world loves you
look how much the world loves you

how the hell do you get this is about god? it's about having her baby. i thought that was obvious, but guess i was wrong. maybe because i'm not religious.

anyway... new favorite! i bought RED LETTER YEAR on Sunday && have basically had this song on repeat ever since. i am so happy i got to see her play this song live in St.Louis this past October. =]

That's an interesting interpretation...about her having her baby.

I think I know what she really means, though. The name of the song implies it, actually. She's not preaching to the choir here. She's speaking to religious zealots that have their heads in the clouds, shouting at them, "Time to come down now. Time to land. Time to get back in touch with reality and be grounded once again." In the song, Ani tries to sell the idea to the pious that you don't need to live your life for an afterlife...for after you die. The world loves you right...

On second examination, I think it is actually about a combination of what you and I both put forth...about her having a baby and wanting the baby to live life for the here and now, for this world. She is going to make sure the baby loves this world and promises to never instill the fear-mongering of the religious in him or her. The frustrations and criticisms I mentioned that she puts forth are intertwined with her hopes and wishes for her baby. She mentions them as obstacles for her baby to overcome in this new world he or she...

Yeah, I think it's about being in labor, giving birth to her child. Welcoming the baby to this world in a very loving way.
