Life being what it is Lyrics

You put a note in my pocket, Said be good to yourself
and that was all

Life being what it is, we all dream of revenge
Open your eyes for a second, just to roll them at me
I stared straight into the sun, something to concentrate on

and if you turn it on you'd find, I've written you a thousand times
You would do anything, you'd give up everything for god knows why
I just can't stay till you're gone
I wont wish you well, I wont see you off, I wont try to call
if I see you in my mind, I'll say to you
It's not your fault

You said I'll see you in September, but thats not long enough for me
You put a note in my pocket, so it would take care of me
but that was all

So amazing. I loved her first two albums that were just guitar, but her vocals and lyrics are so beautiful, I can't help but love this too.

This song... it's my favorite from the album, and it also remember when me and my gf, we broke up. I can relate it to that night. And everything I'm listening to this song I can see the whole thing in my head, almost like a music video.

Memory

Such a good song. Basically, a loved one (Kaki's girlfriend?) is leaving for whatever reason (work?) and Kaki can't take it. She won't say goodbye and see her off because she resents she is leaving in the first place. A note isn't enough to compensate for the hurt Kaki feels. Deep down, Kaki knows that the girl has got to leave for whatever it is and it's not her fault, but Kaki still thinks she would throw away their relationship for whatever opportunities come up. Perhaps Kaki views it as revenge for a time she had done the exact same thing to this girl.

Amazing song. Guitar picking is great... I want to learn this if I can find some tabs.

This is a really great video of her performing live in sydney. (on my 18th birthday as a matter of fact)

The group that made it are called 'Shoot The Player'. They are pretty much an Austrlian version of the La Blogotheque group from Paris who film artists performing live around the city. One take. Ambient noise included. I really like it. She did a few StP videos which are all great.

I have to agree mostly with 8394147. I know I shouldn't project personal experiences upon this, but quite frankly it's impossible not to with songs.

"and if you turn it on you'd find, I've written you a thousand times You would do anything, you'd give up everything for god knows why I just can't stay till your gone I wont wish you well, I wont see you off, I wont try to call if I see you in my mind, I'll say to you It's not your fault"

This part here hits me the hardest. I'm currently dating a girl who could up and move at any moment due to her job. The line "I just can't stay till your gone" resonates the most with me. I'm stuck in this feeling right now of being lost. I don't know if I should stay until the end, or end it now because I can't stand to see the end.

That's my 2 cents.

"if you turn it on you'd find, I've written you a thousand times" I think maybe is dedicated to the person she used to be, she tells:

"I stared straight into the sun, something to concentrate on" I think this means she had an experience that make her learn something and change her.

"if I see you in my mind, I'll say to you It's not your fault" Maybe when she remember how she used to be, she forgives herself.

My Interpretation

"Life being what it is, one dreams of revenge" is a Paul Gauguin quote.

Discovered this through one of Joe Abercrombie's books.
