The Dissentience Lyrics
Down the street half a block away, in a familiar place regular people agree with each other in smoke signals. Brought together to burn the thing that brings them together, each in turn interprets the law as aging with its eyesight failing. Sitting across the tables spending nights talking about other nights, our eyes unclose like books we've read twice. On the shelves lined with spines, the dust collects as scattered ash from an urn unturned, spilling over with somebody regular. And other such regulars cry ghost and boast of the friend of a friend who saw a strange sight, or heard a strange sound, who now whispers tall tales of murder most foul. The scene hits the moon with a rise from the shelves, alive on the myths of ordinary people past: somebody's little girl dreaming of the things she reads, or the monsters in her bed who hacked her into blood-meat.

Im not exactly sure what the theme of this song is about, but after reading over it, it might be about the ages of history becoming blurry. People begin to hear many different accounts of history, therefore a big rumour is started. Many historical accounts we hear are often mixed in with lies. This also plays a role into today's culture; Many lies are spread by the media in order to cover up the true details of the story.
"sentience
"Sentience refers to the ability to feel or perceive subjectively, not necessarily including the faculty of self-awareness."
"The Sentience Quotient of an individual is a measure of the efficiency of an individual brain [although not its relative intelligence]"
This song is about drinking booze and fucking bitches.
I read that in an article somewhere. But its supposed to be really metaphorical
Actually, The Spoon is right, the link is: http://headbangersblog.mtv.com/2008/01/28/protest-the-hero-kill-boredom-brain-cells-with-prog-noise/
"Brought together to burn the thing that brings them together." It's pretty clear they're talking about weed. :) The rest of the song seems to be about friends recalling experiences when they were stoned, and that sort of thing. The last line with the "girl" and "blood-meat" is probably in reference to the "bitches" they fuck, but maybe not. :D
In any case, I like to think there's little gems of hidden alternate meanings, like what mouse380 said, which I also thought was the theme of the song at first. Sometimes little things like that slip in subconciously when you write poetry.
"Down the street half a block away, in a familiar place regular people agree with each other in smoke signals."
wow, you're right
this song has been switched with limb from limb the dissentience was supposed to be in the second movement and limb from limb was to be in the first, check the lyrics for proof, kinda similar to bloodmeat and bone marrow (and also has a gruesome title like the latter)
this song is more along the lines of spoils it definitely belongs in the second movement
and i think the term "bloodmeat" is some sort of inside joke between the band members
When they mean by "bloodmeat" is the blood inside you rushing to your gential organs. Yes, and they admitted that, and it's quite funny actually.
TO what gorgonseye said about "sentience". Why the fuck would it be about sentience when the song is called the dissentience. If you look up the word Dissentience you will find it means Meaning #1: disagreeing, especially with a majority Meaning #2: (of Catholics formerly) refusing to attend services of the Church of England. So it the title means to go against religion mainly Catholicism. "cry ghost and boast of the friend of a friend who saw a strange sight, or heard a strange sound, who now whispers tall tales of murder most foul" i see this as refering to the bible story of how someone knew someone who saw jesus once he was risen(cry ghost and boast of the friend of a friend who saw a strange sight) and once the disciples saw jesus risen they could speak many tongues to preach the word of jesus(or heard a strange sound) and then they spread the word of jesus' crucifixion to others in these tongues.(who now whispers tall tales of murder most foul) just my two cents
Whenever i hear this song, i always envision it taking place in an opium den with a plethora of subdued men relating exaggerated stories of murder, ghosts, and their rebellious views of the current political system (ties in with the definition of "dissentience"). All of them are in a vegetated state, they all conform to each others idea of nonconformity. In the end, their mythology reaches young ears and is interpreted as truth. The mythology instills conservatism and a fear of the UNKNOWN into little girls and adults until they are no longer emotional, free, individual human beings but still-life, cold blooded, god-fearing, monster-fearing slabs of meat. It is not the actual monster who hacked her to bloodmeat, but the sense of "faith through fear" that stripped her of her humanity and individuality and turned her into nothing more than blood and tissue. The same "faith through fear" persuaded Genghis Khan's minions to spread the virgin east and the modern world to crusade against extraterrestrial life.
