Losing Keys Lyrics

Dont worry
Everybody in the room notices you
Sit back and relax
The night is early
We are about to overdo it
So come and tell me something that youve already told me
Cause everybodys already heard our lovely stories
Im hoping some of them are true

Ive been losing lots of keys lately,
I dont know what that means
But maybe Ive been better off with things that cant be locked at all
Ive been feeling kind of sea sick lately,
See you reaching to me gonna save me
You were me, I would much rather take the fall

The world has its ways
To quite us down
The world has its ways
To quiet us down comes the rain
Down comes our spirits again
But Down comes the strength
To lift us up and then

Been going up when now
For to long
Forget how
To let go
Seems to hard
To late now
To turn around
The world has its ways
To quite us down
The world has its ways
To quiet us down comes rain
Down comes our spirits again
Down comes the strength
To lift us up and then

I think Jack is trying to say that, in trying to make our lives more simple, we have really made them more complicated. When something happens....like "losing your keys" or cell phone, etc. we realize how much we rely on these items. Its funny how the world really does "have it's way to quite us down" when we lose these things. We realize how much power they have to us, yet they are things that we "cant let go" of because its "too late now". We can turn around the technologies that we have brought into our lives. Just what I think....who knows?

This song is very lovely and chill. I love the bit when he gets to the " been going up..." The way he sings it is magic.

I don't really know what the song means, although z115491's idea makes sense. This is a beautiful song though.

i got something very different from this song. this whole album was dedicated to Danny Riley (Jack's cousin who died), and every track is a little darker than his other work. anyway, I think this song is maybe just about him dealing with his cousin's death.

it sounds like the first part is about his wife making things seem better than they are - so people don't think he's depressed or something. she's trying to get him out, possibly overcompensating for his depression with her "lovely stories" - but he wants her to chill out a little. he's not even sure he believes them "i'm hoping some of them are true," but the problem in this song is not their relationship.

in the chorus, he talks about how this (his cousin's death) is affecting him, and he says, "See you reaching to me, gonna save me" - he knows she's just trying to help. As for the part about losing keys, I think that sort of thing happens when you're really distracted and depressed - he's just drawing us a picture.

And if you listen to the rest of the song with this in mind, it just talks about how he feels. Pretty somber for Jack, actually. "The world has its ways to quiet us down" - Sometimes, life is just painful. :(

i agree, a lot of the songs on the new album sound like jack's been goin through somethin, tryin to address it and being real, but not trying to be too negative, the result is a pretty low key mood throughout.

could keys mean his cousin?

To me, this song means commitment and love. What he sings about in the beginning makes me think of him trying to calm down, because later I think he tries to say it's okay to let out your emotions. When he begins to talk about losing keys I think he is absolutely talking about losing something which will make you sad. As for the bit about the world, I feel like he's saying when your upset, the way we naturally calm down is by crying. And he continues to talk about down goes the rains (tears) and spirts.
