Say Goodnight

I think that this is about the singer loosing his wife (or loved one) and having to face living life and raising a child without her. There are some things in the song, however, that make me think that she is terminally ill and DYING but not quite there. Such as "heaven is waiting" and most of the first verse. this also includes the "flowers laid out for you" part as well.

"seeing your face reflect from our babies eyes" could be literally interpreted as the physical resemblence that the baby holds with the mother.

well, apparently it's because Jay lost his dad last year and his daughter was born near to that time which is the whole 'Seeing your face reflect from our babies eyes' bit. But it could apply to like anyone who's lost someone close to them really

Personally i'd have to say its about suicide. a troubled, anger strickened teen that lost the one thing that gave his life meaning. his girlfriend. and he felt there was no point on living further.

"Heavens waiting for you"- release him from the hell he is in. "just close your eyes and say goodnight"- put the gun to your head and end this misery. "hearing your pulse go on..."- hearing his nervous heart beat from shear terror of his actions.

"i live my life in misery"- nothing but despair since she left him. "id sacrifice this world to hold you"- instead he sacrifices himself since he cant get her back. she'll listen to suicide though. "no breath left inside of me"- cant breath another breath if its not for her. "shattered glass keeps falling"- clearly there was a fight before his decision.

"say goodnight"- end this now. "just sleep tight"- live without this pain.

"flowers laid out for you"- no one can believe hes really gone. even her. "so many colors leave me blind"- no one sees the real reason it happened. they just see the mourning of him. "seeing your face reflect from our baby's eyes" they had a child that she left with him. then he left the child.

wow, actually i was talking to Jay just the other day and it's about his daughter and dad. he told us that he friggen has her on a leash, he'd do anything for her and she's his world. he was telling us this because right now his 7? week old baby is really sick right now and being a newborn and being on tour, he hasn't had much time to bond with him.

This is my favorite song right now on Scream Aim Fire..ahh so good. The meaning could be interpreted a number of different ways. I'd just say it's about love.

Ok, my interpretation could be way out there but when I heard this song this is what came to my mind.

I think it is about a guy who is loosing his wife, who will go to heaven because she is faithful to him. He is losing her not because she is dying, but because he used to be someone different and have a different life and he has been holding on to that side of him and he is living his life "in misery" because he has to choose between his wife and who he used to be. In the end he starts saying he'd "sacrifice this world to hold you" and decides to choose "here i am with you i'm there til the end" and when he says "memories are calling so farewell my friend" he is referring to who he used to be, possible an alcoholic and alcohol was his friend or something like that, and he is saying bye to his friend to be with his wife and child.

I agree with johnob. I'm surprised at the few comments. I love the opening riff. In general, Matt's voice is taking that original "BFMV" edge away in this album, but it remains fuckin awesome. One of the greatest bands on the planet.
