When Ye Go Away Lyrics
Now he's brought down the rain
and the Indian summer is through.
In the morning you'll be following your trail again -
fair play to you.
You're ain't calling me to join you,
and I'm spoken for anyway.
But I will cry when ye go away.
I will cry when ye go away.
Your beauty is familiar,
and your voice is like a key;
it opens up my soul
and torches up a fire inside of me.
Your coat is made of magic,
and around your table angels play.
I will cry when ye go away.
I will cry when ye go away.
Somebody left us whiskey
and the night is very young.
I've got some to say and more to tell,
and the words will soon be spilling from my tongue.
I will rave and I will ramble
I'll to everything but make you stay.
Then I will cry when ye go away.
I will cry when ye go away.
I will cry when ye go away
I will cry when ye go away.
and the Indian summer is through.
In the morning you'll be following your trail again -
fair play to you.
You're ain't calling me to join you,
and I'm spoken for anyway.
I will cry when ye go away.
and your voice is like a key;
it opens up my soul
and torches up a fire inside of me.
Your coat is made of magic,
and around your table angels play.
I will cry when ye go away.
and the night is very young.
I've got some to say and more to tell,
and the words will soon be spilling from my tongue.
I'll to everything but make you stay.
I will cry when ye go away.
I will cry when ye go away.

I don't really care care what this song means in terms of it's lyrical content. Today I played it for the first time in about 20 years and I'd forgotten what a beautiful song it is. It made me think of my children, two of whom have left home, two about to become adolescents and how, now, after bringing these lovely beings into the world time is going so quickly and it won't be long until they've all grown up and gone away.
For me this song is about a man who loves a woman and for some reason she has to leave. Even though he would do everything in his power for her to stay, he admits that he knows she will eventually go. Mike Scott's lyrics never fail to amaze me and this song, though sad, communicates the emotions he is feeling so beautifully. Definitely one of my favourite songs of all time.
Duke Ellington said there were only two types of music, regardless of type, which were either good or bad. Obviously this tune falls in the former category Its one of those little pieces of perfection that keeps us listening through the rust and dust of modern music. A diamond in the 'ruff' no less. Perfect harmony of words ,music , arrangement, and performance ..............................................Perfect !
