that line reminds me of Black by Pearl Jam. (I know some day you'll have a beutiful life i hope you'll be a sun in somebody elses sky, but why, why why, can't it be mine)
I like this song a lot. I like Rose March more, but i heard this live and it really bought the song to life.
I think its about realising you may need to let go of some people who bring you down and saying i will try to make it on my own. He's more or less saying, i'll have to live without you but i hope you don't feel bad about it and i still like you.
perhaps it has something to do with the divided fan base. either way, pumpkins rule and Billy and Jimmy are musical geniuses.

LOVE this song, came to it kinda late too.
Anyway, I think it's about leaving a stale relationship for a new one and rediscovering yourself and how strong you are in the process. Billy Corgan, writes some of THE best lyrics ever; truly a favorite of mine!
