The music industry/record labels decide to shelf artists when they don't want to them to keep writing songs, because of contracts this basically means the artist can no longer write sell song until the record company allows them to again.

It seems in this song, they are trying to make Ben Lee just sit and not write any songs, but...he is fighting back and saying I don't want to just fall asleep and be forgotten, I'm not going to change the style of songs, I'm me and that's my decision.

It's a great song, and I think it has a good message in it. Don't change for other people, make sure you are living life for yourself and making your own decision about who you are.
