When We Were Trees Lyrics
You fell too fast
Like a cannon ball
But the fishnet stocking hands caught me again
And your head explodes like nothing's wrong
My God, we laid there silent, for an hour
And the birds they watched like a funeral
And they sang us all their pretty funeral songs
Yahweh Yahweh Halleluia
What a mess that you have made again this time
Tempt us, tempest
And the birds they cry and watch us as we squall
And as we fall
And we must have laid alone for hours
I could feel your cold blood creeping up my arm
And I asked you if you were all right
But the bubbles from your mouth gave out alarm
And our mothers ran towards your ghost
While our fathers tried to fix your eggshelled head
And they're singing humpty dumpty Halleluia
The king himself could not fix you again
Now I sing because I miss you
And I meant to tell you that but I was scared
I was scared
Like a cannon ball
But the fishnet stocking hands caught me again
And your head explodes like nothing's wrong
My God, we laid there silent, for an hour
And the birds they watched like a funeral
And they sang us all their pretty funeral songs
Yahweh Yahweh Halleluia
What a mess that you have made again this time
Tempt us, tempest
And the birds they cry and watch us as we squall
And as we fall
I could feel your cold blood creeping up my arm
And I asked you if you were all right
But the bubbles from your mouth gave out alarm
And our mothers ran towards your ghost
While our fathers tried to fix your eggshelled head
And they're singing humpty dumpty Halleluia
The king himself could not fix you again
Now I sing because I miss you
And I meant to tell you that but I was scared
I was scared

"and the birds they cry and watch us as we squall
and as we fall"
ahhhh i love this song.
what an incredibly sad song. it has to be after some sort of accident. a fall off a building. a car crash. this person has witnessed his best friend, maybe his lover, die in his arms. a broken cranium. blood from the mouth. blood from the head. (note the humpty dumpty reference to a cracked skull.) painful.
does anyone know when/where this was released? the lyrics are beautiful & i'd love to hear it.
it's a b-side to wolves at night, you can get it on itunes.

this song gives me chills.
it's really sad. =/
Oh, and it's
"Yahweh, Yahweh, Hallelujah"
Yahweh is another word for the Christian god.
It sounds like it's "eggshell bed", though I do think "head" would make more sense there... hm
Okay, so one thing people need to understand while listening to Andy Hull's music is that he often alludes to Christianity because it is such a big part of his life.
He might not actually be singing about a terrible accident, although that is definitely on the right track if taken perfectly literally.
But since he says yahweh and God and the King, he might be talking about her redemption and how he misses the way she once was. just a shot?

The second verse sounds like a seizure or something.
