I think it's basically about cults. it should be pretty obvious by the promises of "harmony and peace of mind" along with "wisdom and serenity" as long as you'll "donate all your money."

This song is both bubbly and creepy. It reminds me of the twilight zone....freaky stuff O_O. But like most of you have said . .it sounds like a cult drawing innocent victims into their lost cause. It can also be interpreted as possibly all those gimmicks, fads or institutions (religious, political, social) that manipulate and persaude people using glorified and overstated lines such as "Join in and you will see the light" . .or "Try this now and you're be tuning heads within minutes" When really they're all lies, sugar-coated with the 'this is what could happen if you try or do this' slogan....all for the purpose of money, which relates to the lyrics: "Floating in the magic world Donate all your money We'll make it better (make it better)" I think this song could also be poking fun at the universal nature of humankind's search for permanent happiness. If you watch the video, you notice the happy pee-wee looking dude who keeps hippity hoppiting has somesort of halo around him and he's wearing white (again to standout against everyone else he passes), which is emphasising he's the result of finding this "happiness", he's very lively and he moves ahead of eveyrone else in time which relates alot to the line "Time stops still when, You've lost love" Which is ironic and juxtasposes the line, when you look at the end of the music video, you see the elderly couple who are still together, and time doesn't seem to go any faster for them. "We're here to welcome you" remind me a lot of business, organisations or cults that try to maintain friendly faces and provide friendly service . . I think the whole song is secretly suggesting that searching for permanent happiness is useless, as happiness is not something that can be bought with money or with fads, materialism . . things you fall in love with. Attachment to objects and ideas. The song sounds sinister during this verse Floating in the magic world Donate all your money We'll make it better (make it better) We're here to welcome you Eespecially when she utters and sings the "We'll make it better (make it better)" line. It's suggesting that all these gimmicks and fads that organisations, cults, institutions try to draw you in with their lies, have a ulterior motive rather than the one they're promoting to you.

I could be over analysing this all but it was fun so shup. =P

This song is certainly about cults, but I don't believe the video has anything to do with symbolism. It's actually a clever remake of Bobby Van's Vaudeville type song and dance number "Take Me to Broadway" from the 1953 movie Small Town Girl. Here's the URL to that video:

So you can compare. Take a look at the details like the car in the beginning and the hoping dog at the end. It's almost exact with the exception of some fantastic modifications that update the time period of the video to present day. Very nice.

I think this is about going to rehab or a clinic to treat your broken heart. When you get out, everyone sees the new you and wonders how you were able to become happy again.

The first thing that came to my mind was Scientology. Buying happiness with all your money and finding your real inner self. Definitely cult-like symbolism, but not sure if there is a deeper Alison meaning in there too.

my mind also jumped straight to cults, in particular scientology, and how they're, well, full of shit. i love this song, it's one of the best off seventh tree! ah, the irony of having such a hippy-skippy, happy song with ironic lyrics like these. . . heh.

It's about a cult, definitely, but not about scientology specifically. Yet is such a powerful song with a dark hidden meaning, though it makes me feel safe and warm simultaneously :)
