As We Were Lyrics
as we were
as before
comes to be
nevermore
as we fall
comes to be
nevermore
the fool
to regret
to repent
to forget
as our hurt
devestates
as our hopes
dissipate
turning joy
into pain
as our love
turns in vain
so we now
close the door
as we were
nevermore
day of birth
be alive
leaning now
to survive
to move on
without ache
humbler
within grace
within hope
dawn of spring
to the start
all that sadness brings
as before
comes to be
nevermore
comes to be
nevermore
the fool
to regret
to repent
to forget
devestates
as our hopes
dissipate
into pain
as our love
turns in vain
close the door
as we were
nevermore
be alive
leaning now
to survive
without ache
humbler
within grace
dawn of spring
to the start
all that sadness brings

I think that it's about a break-up for sure, but it also has that hope of moving on, no matter how faint. And that moving on always happens eventually. All the joy you had with being with that someone, is turned to pain as they're no longer there. The line "as we fall, comes to be, nevermore..." explains a lot of the painful emotions one would go through in a time of heartbreak like that.
My 2 cents.
