Footballer's Wife Lyrics
Oh Mr James Dean
He don't belong to anything
Oh he left before they could get him
With their ways, their wicked ways
Oh Marilyn Monroe
Where did you go?
I didn't hear all these stories
I didn't see all your glory
But the footballer's wife tells her troubles and strife
I just don't care in the end
Who is she to pretend
That she's one of them?
I don't think so
And the girl from that show
Yes the one we all know
She thinks she's some kind of star
Yes you know who you are
I don't think so
I don't think so
Oh Ginger Rogers, Fred Astaire
Won't you dance for me cos I just don't care
What's going on today
I think there's something more, something more
And I'm gone with the wind like they were before
But I believe in myself I think there's something more
There must be something more
I think there's something more, something more
But still the footballer's wife tells her troubles and strife
I just don't care in the end
Who is she to pretend
That she's one of them?
I don't think so
And the girl from that show
Yes the one we all know
She thinks she's some kind of star
Yes you know who you are
I don't think so
I don't think so
Oh I don't believe in the telling of your stories
There's just something unappealing
It don't catch my eye
It don't catch my eye
Oh I don't believe in the selling of your glories
Before you leave, this life has so much more to see
I don't believe this is how the world should be
But the footballer's wife tells her troubles and strife
I just don't care in the end
Who is she to pretend
That she's one of them?
I don't think so
And the girl from that show
Yes the one we all know
She thinks she's some kind of star
Yes you know who you are
I don't think so
I don't think so
The footballer's wife tells her troubles and strife
I just don't care in the end

Such a poignant and melancholy song. Amy Macdonald isn't the first person to question the validity of "celebrity" but she certainly conveys it beautifully in this song.
I don't think this is about anyone in particular. But I think when she says "girl from that show" she's definetly talkin about ppl who get famous by being on a reality tv show. This song is about thinking of our culture in the past and seeing it was so much better to how it is today, with everyone tying to get their 15 minutes of fame. I think Amy feels there's much mroe to life than trying to be famous and those ppl who try so hard could be doing something much more productive, like enjoying their life.
The chorus is so catchy...very mature songwriting. Great lyrics, too.
Brilliant song and sums up exactly how I feel about the two girls the song is about. Chanelle from Big Brother and Coleen, Wayne Rooney's girlfriend. I totally agree with Amy, both act like big stars and are almost completely devoid of any redeeming talents.
