Fire On The Mountain Lyrics

Ooh.. Why? Oh-oh mmh..

There is fire on the mountain
And nobody seems to be on the run
Oh there is fire on the mountain top
And no one is a-running

I wake up in the morning
'll tell you what I see on my TV-screen
I see the plight of an innocent child
And everybody's watching

What did it say to make you so blind?
To your conscience and reason
Could it be love for your country?
Or for the gun you use in killing

So..
There is fire on the mountain
And nobody seems to be on the run
Oh there is fire on the mountain top
And no one is a-running

Hey ! Mr lover-man!
Can I get a chance to talk to you?
'Cause you are fooling with a dead man's corpse
And you don't know what you do

Oh...
So little Lucy's turned sixteen
And like the movie she's been seeing
She has a lover in her daddy
She can't tell nobody
'till she makes the evening news

For there is fire on the mountain
And nobody seems to be on the run
Oh there is fire on the mountain top
And no one is a-running. Oh yes.

One day the river will overflow
And there'll be nowhere for us to go
And we will run, run,
Wishing we had put out fire...

Oh Lord!
For there is fire on the mountain - yeah, yeah
And there ain't nobody to fight it - yeah
Oh there is fire on the mountain
And no one is a-running

So yeah, yeah, yeah ...
There is fire in Africa
Fire everywhere, can't we see it?
And no one is a-running

Pure genius by a Nigerian diva Asa. Fire here is used metaphorically to refer to all the negativities in Africa like poverty, wars, strife, and even sexual molestation. At the end, all these things come back to haunt us, and we'l be hoping we had given ears to them. As a Nigerian Singer/songwriter/guitarist myself, i cant help but applaud Asa for breakin all boundaries..P.s the song can be likened to tracy chapman's Bang bang bang.....

i absolutely love this song. it's really, in essence, a good, heartfelt and simple sociopolitical song. it doesn't SCREAM anarchy and rebellion against authority (like certain punk rock songs do), instead what i like about it is its detailed and modern commentary on the "fire on the mountain" happening all around us today, leading us to question whether our society is as perfect as we take it for granted to be. dedicated to Africa, the song also sheds light on the situation there.

haha, in my mind i can clearly see this song being performed at LIVE 8. and it definitely should be, if the event happens again. everyone wants peace, and i think the people of Africa (directly mentioned in the song) definitely need it. go asa.

It's great to hear an artist with a brilliant voice singing lyrics as good as this. Living in Scotland, I can relate the words to here too; lots of issues that people get angry about, but nobody does anything. Then when these things affect us personally we will complain that somebody should have done something about it. I think her songs should be compulsory listening for all politicians.
