Ten Dead Dogs Lyrics

I saw ten dead dogs on the side of the road
driving late last night to your apartment
and I thought it was an omen
so I headed on back home and
walked in circles 'round my room
alone.

And Oh my god, is this really what you want?
Would you tell us if it's not?
And could you rewrite the plot
and come and get us?
Yeah, come and get us.

Shivering cold, I woke up in water
and wrapped myself around the toilet seat.
I spoke in tongues and took all my clothes off.
The tops of my fingers
touched the tops of my toes

And Oh my god, is this really what you want?
Would you tell us if it's not?
And could you rewrite the plot
and come and get us?
Cause we can't stop doing
what we think we want,
even though we know it's not.
This place is merely a subplot
to come and get us.

I've never felt this way before.
Am I running away from what
I've always been running towards.
Belief, believe in me, cause I don't know
if reason's ever gonna see why love
would come to die,
to leave.

Oh my god, is this really what you want?
Would you tell us if it's not?
And could you rewrite the plot
and come and get us?
Cause we can't stop doing
what we think we want,
even though we know it's not.
This place is merely a subplot
to come and get us.

I watched the sky turn from blue
to black to red and yellow too
before the purple dawn was filling up my room.
And for a brief moment,
I heard the whole earth groaning
like there was something
that it needed me to do.

this song is amazinggggg.

i think it's about like trying to figure out what he's meant to do in life. i really like the lyrics on pretty much all their songs.

-they are nice guys too hah

I think more than searching for a meaning in his life the speaker is questioning his belief in, what sounds to be, the Christian God. It sounds like the speaker is coming from a background of faith having experienced The Spirit through tongues and he's questioning is this really what God had planned out?

He asks why love (Jesus) would come to earth and die then leave. It gives us a sense of abandonment, really. Then he asks again is this what you want and could you do anything about it if it's not.

I think a lot of people...

Haven't heard a band like this in a time, with a solid sound and personality. Think they're gonna get very far- Great song

to me, i think it's about someone's life being at a standstill and is questioning God about what to do next

Ten Dead Dogs seems intensely personal, but several of the concepts are ambiguous enough that you can dive in for your own catharsis. I'm stunned by the depth of the lyric "Belief, believe in me, cause I don't know if reason's ever gonna see why love would come to die, to leave."! I love hearing a song that is honest about a struggle in faith/meaning. Too often, people seem to get this area of their psyche all sewn up in one direction or the other and stop asking the really relevant questions. Does anyone have any thoughts about what's going on in the third verse? Also, I am wondering if the selection of "purple" is coincidental to the association purple has with royalty and the color of robes in which the Roman soldiers dressed Christ.

WSO is a very religiously background band...

but the third verse.. colors are always associated with emotions.. blue (feeling blue?)..black (emo)..yellow (who knows..maybe sickness of somekind) ...purple i have no idea.. idk what they mean exactly to him.. but im sure theyre emotions that have stormed him and left before a calm ??purple?? came in and settled things down.. and the whole world calling him just means that he thinks maybe this purple time is telling him...or showing him what he needs to do in life..all this song is about..the same thing i do everyday.. question whether what and where ur going in life is the path ur spose to go.. and if its not would god tell us.. would he change our plot or destiny.. would he come get us?... this song is very deep...

this is a very Coming Of Age song...

This song is extremely religious though..this part alone sums it up...

I've never felt this way before. Am I running away from what I've always been running towards. Belief,

he says it right there..." is he running away from what hes always been running towards...BELIEF..."

religious yes could be wrong but i'm also gonna add ecological problems but my conclusion is that it's definitely about the human kind and how the human kind does everything wrong...

I think this song is to do with humankind and what we as humans do. I think he's asking God whether what we're doing is what He wants and if he could 'rewrite the plot' cos 'we can't stop doing, what we think we want' cos we've gone to far to turn back.

The last verse i think has nothing to do with emotions. the sky does turn from blue to black then to red and yellow and dawn is sometimes purple. Google image it. this verse i think just means he's stayed up all night thinking and praying and finally when the purple dawn came he found he needed to do something to change.

Love this song, one of my favourites

I honestly don't know how accurate this is because it's from a website..but I remembered that purple was used during advent for some reason or another..

Blue, the color of the sky, is symbolic of heaven. It may also be used to symbolize truth. Blue is gaining acceptance as a liturgical color for Advent.

Black is symbolic of death, and is therefore the liturgical color for Good Friday. Black can also represent sin, which results in death.

Red is the color of blood and therefore is the liturgical color for the commemoration of martyred saints. Red is used as the liturgical color for Pentecost, since it is the color of fire.

As the color of light, yellow may be used to represent divinity. However, because yellow light is not pure white, it may also be used to symbolize corruption and degradation.

Purple is the color for penitence and mourning. It is also the color of royalty. Purple is the liturgical color for the seasons of Advent and Lent.

He may have even meant for them to be in the order that they are in..in the song. Who knows!
