I'm listening to the full thing right now, and I'm in love with it. I think this is one of their more deeper and meaningful songs.

A plague is also a sickness/disease that spreads.

He might think his love was just something that made matters worse in his relationship. I think this might be about him trying to please someone so much, but he thinks it's not enough. Maybe he wants to think of the best, but something happened with their relationship to make it to the point where things can't get fixed, no matter how hard he tried.

He wrote this song about Tara. They dated for like 2 years. She pretty much bailed on him his senior year. She was already graduated. This was one of their first songs, and took a long time to actually finish. He wanted to spend as much time as he needed to make sure it was perfect. So it's not about him "thinking" it wasn't enough. It just wasn't. As much as it sucks, that's how that whole thing worked out. Sooo that's the story behind this...and like every other song of theirs. I know this, because while you're all obsessed with them, I actually know them. Oh and Grant is who I'm referring to by the way.
