Unsuspecting Sunday Afternoon Lyrics

how come i was the last to know
took the stage then you stole the show
another unsuspecting sunday afternoon
i was captured by that stare
now i'm shattered but i don't care
and the people walking by don't have a clue
that i kissed your face
till the sun was in our eyes
till the afternoon arrived
and i can't explain
last night i saw the fireworks
the kind of pain that never hurts
the one you hate to love that's made for you
another unsuspecting sunday afternoon

monday is a funny thing
still waiting for the phone to ring
will my imagination take its toll
after saturday my life was changed
in a moment it was rearranged
strange how easy it is letting go
and i missed your face
like the sun was in my eyes
and now i'm running blind
and i can't explain
last night i saw the fireworks
the kind of pain that never hurts
the one you hate to love that's made for you
another unsuspecting sunday afternoon

this week will leave unexpected things
is this the end or only the beginning
(i miss your face)
like the sun was in my eyes (like the afternoon)
and now im running blind (running blind)
(i can't explain)
last night i saw the fireworks
the kind of pain that never hurts
the one you hate to love that's made for you
another unsuspecting sunday afternoon
another unsuspecting sunday afternoon

i think this could be about a man who is in love with his best friend but doesnt realise that he is.

everyone else knew that he is in love with her but he was the last to know, to realise. "how come i was the last to know?" he's been so self-absorbed not to notice ("took the stage"). and suddenly, she looks at him ("i was captured by the stare") on saturday (which explains why in 2nd verse it goes "after saturday my life was changed") and at that moment he really stops being self-absorbed and notices her for who she is ("then you stole the show") and truly his life has changed on an "unsuspecting sunday afternoon".

so they spent all night together kissing ("that i kissed your face, till the sun was in our eyes till the afternoon arrived") and now on sunday afternoon he's exhausted but doesnt care ("now i'm shattered but i don't care") and the people who walk past him dont realize what he feels inside right now ("and the people walking by don't have a clue") on a day that he suspected to be just as any other sunday. so its an "unsuspected sunday afternoon").

"last night i saw the fireworks, the kind of pain that never hurts, the one you hate to love that's made for you, another unsuspecting sunday afternoon" - they are best friends and made for one another and FINALLY the love has sparked and that on a day that he suspected to be so normal, but isnt.

now its monday and he hasnt heard from her "monday is a funny thing, still waiting for the phone to ring" and he's worried that he will think about reasons why she hasnt called like doesnt she feel the same way, etc ("will my imagination take its toll"). since sunday his life is different, he's found his One, he's other/better half and has to realize life wont be the same ("after saturday my life was changed, in a moment it was rearranged") and he's surprised how easy it is to let go of the life he's lead so far ("strange how easy it is letting go")

so he misses her like he'd miss the sun ("and i missed your face like the sun was in my eyes") and now he's blinded by the light of love and he just can't explain (as in put into words) how he feels ("and now i'm running blind, and i can't explain")

now he's still not heard from her so he's wondering what's gonna happen ("this week will leave unexpected things") and he's wondering if this is the end (of their friendship, because he'll be deeply hurt and cant be friends with her if she doesnt feel the same).

everything has changed for him, on a day he thought was gonna be like every other day.

i never got this song before, i always wondered about the meaning of the song, but i've been just in the situation that i believe the song describes - i didnt realise that i am in love with my best friend until he did something random but that made me see him without the best-friend-glasses... and we kissed and i was unsure if he really felt the same. and everything changed for me. i had been single for 5 years on purpose and i've been sayin that i dont think i can give up my single-liberties so easily, but it was strangely easy to let go off those!! so yeah, i really believe that's the meaning of the song.

I think this song is about a guy who's in love with a girl that keeps disappointing him. He has these great moments with her, and it's magical just like the fireworks, but then when that unsuspecting Sunday afternoon arrives, his heart gets shattered again. He's not sure what's gonna happen next, so he doesn't know if this is the end or only the beginning.

something about this song attracts me to it. when i bought the album i was thinking... 'hmm weird name for a song' so i listened to it of course. at the start it waa a song i wasn't fond of listening to. but since i've had the album i have been listening to it even more. 'last night i saw the fireworks the kind of pain that never hurts the one you hate to love that's made for you' best lines of the song

When I first bought the album, I wanted to listen to every song first and not just get caught on one. Well then the Intro started I was a little confused and didn't understand what it meant, but then I heard this song last and it all made sence. I adore this album and this song. It all seems like a journey to me. Starting out with the Intro, then goes through the whole journey of their relationshop throughout the CD and then it goes back to the Intro finishing it up with the whole song. I love it! This may be their BEST album (aside from the oldies..those will always be great!) :) BSB fan forever!

This song is so good. It's definitely about love, whether its good or bad I'm not sure. I think it could be both, how love can be so great, and yet the sad unexpected parts. Well who cares, BSB is AMAZING!

For me it’s about an unexpected feelings that developed after a one night stand. The guy has been hanging out with this girl, and after that one weekend night everything he felt about her changed, but he can’t have her for some reason and noone should know about that night - that’s why his heart shattered, and nobody knows they’ve “kissed”. And now he’s in a limbo, doesn’t know if that one night ends their friendship or starts a relationship/an affair.
