What a Wicked Gang Are We... Lyrics
When I look back,
that's when I see everything was wrong,
And you looked sad, that's when I said I'd write you a song
Everybody's got their reasons; everybody's got their ghosts to fear
When I look back all I see is I've done something wrong.
Wrong, Wrong!
Wrong, all I see is I've done something wrong.
Ah! My Dear! My tis of thee!
What a tangled web we weave!
Everyone is the one until the one falls down
Then we're all just "please please please"
The painted rust will only fool the fools for just so long.
Eventually, that's when they'll see everything was wrong!
Wrong, wrong!
Wrong, that's when they'll see everything was wrong
So here's to the boys who fight all the wars you will never fight for yourself!
And you can ignore who-ever you want to,
but in the end...
Oh! The Shame! Humility!
What a wicked gang are we!
Like a liar looking down on a thief,
Looking down on a killer looking down on a creep.
Oh! This sinking ship will only hold its course for just so long
Eventually, that's when they'll see everything is wrong
Wrong, wrong!
Wrong that's when they'll see everything is wrong
that's when I see everything was wrong,
And you looked sad, that's when I said I'd write you a song
When I look back all I see is I've done something wrong.
Wrong, Wrong!
Wrong, all I see is I've done something wrong.
And you can ignore who-ever you want to,
but in the end...
What a wicked gang are we!
Like a liar looking down on a thief,
Looking down on a killer looking down on a creep.
Eventually, that's when they'll see everything is wrong
Wrong, wrong!
Wrong that's when they'll see everything is wrong

this band is so fucking perfect.
best song on the new album along with receiving end and watch it crash
A stunning conclusion to another amazing Tom K album.
Tom sums his entire album and all it's points up in one final blow: we're basically assholes.
We're doing it all wrong, as a race. We have this power of free will and we're wasting it building bombs and fighting wars and killing and worrying about what comes before and after and not bothering with the most important part: life itself.
Haha, yeah I'll agree with that.
When we aren't doing all it wrong, we're doing nothing or putting the act on others to avoid the blame. Even those who think they've got it right can be contradictory. We'll all fully wake up some day, it's a question of when. Or now.
I love this song, it's very clever. My favorite line "Like a liar looking down on a thief, Looking down on a killer looking down on a creep."
I think this song is meant to sound just like "The Receiving End of It All" I haven't figured out why though...
I think this is about all the hard ships in the world, and all the hardships the world ha gone through. At the end of the day there is/was no need for any of the wars ect. the world has been through. WHY CAN"T WE ALL JUST LIVE IN PEACE! Thats the message in this song i think.
I actually saw this saw to be about relationships and how love is blind. Eventually we discover everything that's wrong with our partners.
"Everyone is the one until the one falls down" Everyone seems like the perfect person until they make a mistake
"The painted rust will only fool the fools for just so long. Eventually, that's when they'll see everything was wrong! Wrong, wrong!" Self explanatory really....eventually we realize how blind we were and all of his/her flaws. Our vision was skewed in this thing we call love.
I think that "Everyone is the one until the one falls down" refers to how people will claim to be teamed up with each other, but when one person fails, the others don't want to have anything to do with him.
I love the horns at the end of the song. They give a sort of doomed, apocalyptic impression. Whenever I listen to them, I imagine a movie scene with this as the background music: I picture a fleet of aliens about to wipe out humanity, with Earth preparing for its final stand. I know that sounds lame, but that's the sort of image I get from it.
This song sounds political to me.
As opposed to the usual, "...blah, blah, blah, Screw Bush, blah, blah, blah" boring outcry, SM takes down the whole damned democracy with them.
"Ah! My Dear! My tis of thee!" is really the line that gives it away to me, with "tis of thee" alluding to "My country tis of thee" The song, I believe, is telling you that the war we're in right now is a catalyst to America's decline, hence the line: "Oh! This sinking ship will only hold its course for just so long Eventually, that's when they'll see everything is wrong"
Also:
"Everyone is the one until the one falls down Then we're all just 'please please please'"
I think the one refers to "An army of one", describing our armed forces. So once the "one" soldier of a once gun-ho family eager to war after the events of 9/11, when Bush's approval ratings were through the roof, dies, everyone is desperate to get out, and change sides, because they're willingness to get into war was foolhardy, with people thinking that their country's war wouldn't affect them.
Sorry, that was a mouthful, but there was more in those two lines than I thought. That's my two cents.
