Somewhere in the Between Lyrics
You were gone when we found you
You were practically surrounded, you were trapped
But the opposition stalled, their blood ran cold
When they saw the look of love in your eyes
Maybe the times we had, they weren't that bad
And everything else was part of the plan
We sang: "I don't know where we go from here"
This is the alpha, omega, beginning and the end
And we all just idolize the dead
So you were born, and that was a good day
Someday you'll die, and that is a shame
But somewhere in the between was a life of which we all dream
And nothing and no one will ever take that away
You had a love and that love had you
And nothing mattered, you were fine
And some will complain, they're just bitter, what a shame
They know that loving and losing is better than nothing at all
Maybe the times we had, they weren't that bad
And everything else was part of our path
We sang: "I don't know where we go from here"
This is the anthem, the slogan, the summary of events
And we all just idealize the past
So you were born, and that was a good day
Someday you'll die, and that is a shame
But somewhere in the between was a life of which we all dream
And nothing and no one will ever take that away
Yea the times we had, they were not that bad
And everything else was part of our plan
We sang: "I don't know where we go from here"
This is the alpha, omega, beginning and the end
And we all just idolize the dead
So you were born, and that was a good day
Someday you'll die, and that is a shame
But somewhere in the between was a life of which we all dream
And nothing and no one will ever take that away
And someday soon my friends, this ride will come to an end
But we can't just get in line again
You were practically surrounded, you were trapped
But the opposition stalled, their blood ran cold
When they saw the look of love in your eyes
And everything else was part of the plan
We sang: "I don't know where we go from here"

Showing how some people think of the life we live is just a stage in between being born and dying, and this song is sort of a celebration of all the things that happen "Somewhere in the Between"-i.e. in life.
Def. one of my favorites from the new album. Can't wait to seem them play it live November 10th!
To MaianMagus, I dont think SM really cares about being left unknown. Considering they have no biography. Tom is very about the Music. I garuntee you as long as Tomas Kalnoky is fronting this group they will never be on MTV or any other popular airplay. it just wouldnt be them.
To Morgan Hoo: I think that the phrase is a double meaning. The song itself is def. an ode to life and about how its not just a step between birth and death and how we should really live our lives how we want to. but looking at the cover.. it seems like Heaven is the swirly blue, earth is the brown bumps, and hell is the pointy firey part. so in that aspect i agree with your interpretation of somewhere in the between. anyway this is one of my favorite songs.
@TomPowers724 I agree on the album cover. The only thing that bothers me is that the song is saying how the life - earth part is so great, but for the cover its boring brown bumps. Haha. Idk, I think they could have made 'life' look more interesting xD

This song seems to talk about how the events in a person's life between birth and death tend to go unnoticed to many people until that person dies or until whatever happened is in the way past. It is human nature to want what isn't there or what you can't have and we just need to appreciate what is already there or already happening.
I love this album. I think that Somewhere in the Between is about not wasting your life because you never know when it will end.
The part about Alpha and Omega is a reference to the biblical passage "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End." Obviously being a part of the song's overall message about how life is not just a beginning (birth) and an end (death).
This song is about life and death, or at least a metaphore relating to death, as pretty much the rest of the album is.
Anyone else pretty much fully agree that this is a concept album???
the whole album was leaked october 24th :|
this song, and the whole cd, rocks
anyone who downloads it though- you still need to buy it! sm is still a new band and if we all just pirate it they'll be left in the dust and shit bands like dashboard confessional will be popular while sm's awesomeness is left unknown. and that's a really depressing though. I'm the most piratey pirate you'll meet but we should all still buy this. maybe more than one copy. you know, hand them out to friends. lol
Interesting Steel Kangaroo, I'd always thought Somewhere in the Between to reference religion, but that is definitely possible as well...
well we know Thomas isnt Jadist or believes in Jadism because he doent talk about reincarnation..... fucking mixed messages in the whole album... im gunna like go to his house and punch him in the face then hug him and tell him that he made the greatest album ever...... any1 with me on that??....
