Somebody Else's Arms

The girl he loves is never going to be with him, no matter what. When they're old she'll die in somebody else's arms. Despite this, he still hopes she has a good life and wants to see her happy. Pretty sad song but it's probably the best on the album. I love it.

I disagree with KJR PAT. The narrator has not accepted anything. Yeah, he realizes he lost, but he is not 100% sincere, with wishing her a happy life. He realizes he can never love anyone else. That is why he downplays the idea of love saying, "It's only love it's not real anyway" While he wishes her happiness he faces the fact that he will never be happy without her. This could be the best AFS song ever.

I love this song for one reason: the story teller is totally being a smart a$$. "Its only love its not real anyway" and "I hope you have a good life"... yeah This guy wants to be with this girl but she's not having it and he's to the point to where he has to accept it but he doesn't have to be nice about it. I love this song and this band and just about anything they do is amazing. I met them about a year ago and they were all really cool.

I completely agree. It's about a relationship gone wrong. You two broke up, and now a part of you wants that person back but the other part is just saying, "We're over, great, I'm better off without you anyways, love's not real anyway...." {Basically agreeing 100% with riotous_showstopper} That's exactly how I feel right now.

"it's only love, it's not real anyway" sometimes, i don't believe in love. i really don't. or that it exists. maybe infatuation with someone. because of society.. i've just.. it's hard to believe it really exists.

i think he's confused. whether or not love is real. because he really loved her. but she isn't with him, and she said she loved him. but if she loved him why would they not be together.

but because he loves her, he wants her to be happy. even if it's hard for him

Basically a song about the guy who gets left for the asshole, but still wants her (and she'll never know because he'll never tell her)

This person finally realized that they made a big misteke by letting this person go. And this person is tearing up inside because the person they let go is going to spend the rest of their lives with someone else and it could've been them that they spent their lives with. And they wish they could have that person they let go back just once more.
