I Know You Won't Lyrics

I know you don't mean to be mean to me
'Cause when you want to
You can make me feel like we belong
We belong

Lately you make me feel all I am is a back-up plan
I'll say I'm done and then you smile at me
And I'll forget everything I said

I buy in to those eyes and into your lies

You say you'll call, but I know you
You say you're coming home, but I know you
You say you'll call, but I know you won't
You say you'll call, but I know you won't

I wish you were where you're supposed to be, close to me
But here I am just staring at this candle burning out
Still no sound

The footsteps on my stairs, your voice anywhere

You say you'll call, but I know you
You say you're coming home, but I know you
You say you'll call, but I know you won't
You say you'll call, but I know you won't

You say you'll call, but I know you
You say you're coming home, but I know you
You say you'll call, but I know you won't
You say you'll call, but I know you won't

What an amazing song. I think the meaning is pretty obvious. This relationship is failing ("this candle burning out"). He keeps making empty promises and treating her badly, but at the same time... he says things that make her feel good and hold on to the relationship ("cause when you want to you can make feel like we belong"). Maybe she feels like a "back-up plan" because he's out with other girls, but still stringing her along because he knows that she loves him. And he does this so that he'll feel secure in having someone (her) if things with the other girls don't work out. If only this song where around with my ex-boyfriend - it's verbatim how I felt and explains the situation so perfectly. But how good it feels having someone make promises and keep them.

it could be what shallremain is saying or.. it could actually possibly be about how she is still in love with the boy that once loved her back. Now that it's over, the girl still wants something but the boy only wants it whenever he wants it. When he does want it, its only purely to get some and not because he feels remotely for her what she feels for him. The cycle never ends. She full well knows shes being used but its so hard to break away "I'll say I'm done and then you smile at me And I'll forget everything I said". Because love is so deep, and love can do that to someone...crazy right?
