Watch It Crash Lyrics
Last night I woke alone with a whisper in my ear
Recanting all my aspirations and my fears
And when the sun came up that voice had disappeared
But it would linger on for years
It said "We can't just blame it on our mothers
Claim everything they did was always wrong"
And there ain't not turning back when our train is off its track
And there's nothing we can do but watch it crash (watch it crash)
And there ain't no right and wrong when we know it won't be long
And there's nothing we can do but watch it crash
So mercy, mercy, mercy me
Praying for the death of a man I'll never meet
Though everyone will know the truth they'll still just make believe
Mercy mercy me
That's all they came for, that's all they took
That's all we had to offer, only dirty looks
And when they realized we'd given all we could, that's when they finally understood
Mercy mercy mercy me
Haunted by the memories of things we'll never see
Guilty for the statements that we'll never get to speak
Mercy mercy me
Recanting all my aspirations and my fears
And when the sun came up that voice had disappeared
But it would linger on for years
It said "We can't just blame it on our mothers
Claim everything they did was always wrong"
And there ain't not turning back when our train is off its track
And there's nothing we can do but watch it crash (watch it crash)
And there ain't no right and wrong when we know it won't be long
And there's nothing we can do but watch it crash
So mercy, mercy, mercy me
Praying for the death of a man I'll never meet
Though everyone will know the truth they'll still just make believe
Mercy mercy me

And when they realized we'd given all we could, that's when they finally understood

Haunted by the memories of things we'll never see
Guilty for the statements that we'll never get to speak
Mercy mercy me

The booklet that comes with the CD actually makes it very clear what this song is about. Here's what it says:
"A tune about the anonymity of war. It kind of seems like a game sometimes, like Risk, or Battleship, where you kind of observe from a great distance (the internet?) as young men are actually killing each other for whatever reason someone came up with. We're expected to hope that our young men will kill enough of their young men to the point where we can declare a victory. That's kind of embarrassing."
Im pretty sure this kinda like Would You Be Impressed, talking about how we're killing the world slowly ourselves.
"It said "We can't just blame it on our mothers" -People blaming all the pollution in our world on the people that came before us if that makes sense.
"And there ain't no right and wrong when we know it won't be long And there's nothing we can do but watch it crash" -Saying that theres nothing we can do now we already ruined our world so we might as well just live our lives and go on the way were living.
"Though everyone will know the truth they'll still just make believe Mercy mercy me" -This part tells how everyone knows their doing wrong but they dont care, and he is trying to help the world by being as environmental friendly as possible and asking (God?) to mercy him.
I dont know, thats what i get outta this one could be wrong though. Overall great song great album, Tomas has done it agian.
Not really a commentary on the lyrics--I think Tomas explained them pretty clearly in the booklet--but do the vocal harmonies in this song remind anyone else of System of a Down? There's a couple other songs on the record that do as well, but this one more than the others.
Only thing wrong is 'right or wrong' instead of 'right and wrong'
oh noes! These 2 songs are unbelievably good, but I've guess they've had plenty of time to come up with new material.
Um, i think he was going with you either have 'right or wrong'. You cant have both 'right and wrong'.

Shit I posted DDDTMC but the layout got screwed during processing Ah well both songs are awesome
i saw this live last night. amazing.
as embarassing as it is, i'm not allowed to buy the new album for a while so i just downloaded it. is the booklet scanned online anywhere?
also, i guess this goes against what the booklet says about the some (so i'm obviously trumped) but did anyone else see it saying that no matter how good we are were human and were gonna screw up and were probably going to hell no matter how hard we try?
Though everyone will know the truth they'll still just make believe
i think that means that even though people knwo the war is wrong no one gives enough of a fuck to do anything about it
In my opinion this song is also about how our our whole society was designed to fail, brought about by our ancestors and given to us. Now that it's falling apart in front of us all we can do is "watch it crash".
Also as far as "praying for the death of a man I'll never meet" in my opinion this is directed at someone of extremely high financial status controlling the direction of our world and causing society to crash.
