Elect The Dead Lyrics

Arms are raised above the sky,
But all I want is me...

You are there beside the night,
But all I want is me,
All I want is me...

Love we know,
Comes from inside,
But all I want is me,
All I want is me...

Death we know,
Come to us alive,
But all I want is you...

Death we know,
Comes to all of us alive,
But all I want is you,
All I need is you,
All I want...

For a Shyboy, you seem quite comfortable in expressing your ridicule towards worthy lyrics ^_^.

raprocker007, if you want, try doing what I do. Open a notepad and write this.

'' The Empty Walls of The Unthinking Majority hide Money for the illusive afterlife and do not Feed Us instead thereby Saving Us from the conclusive enviromental theory that the Sky is Over. The Baby is run over by the careless Honking Antelope who, quoting from the book of Lie Lie Lie, cries Praise the Lordand Pass the Ammunition. The ground rumbles and out flies Beethoven's Cunt screaming Elect the Dead*! ''

After you do that, read the 2 names and what is of between them when you switch from one song to another. Try to work with this community to understand what each song means as a word. I recently told my friend that trying to read this paragraph strait is like trying to understand this:

Justice and Love is Good for all of Mankind.

You got a feel for the concept as a whole, but we really don't understand the meanings of the words themselves. I'm currently reading "The Republic of Plato" to try to understand what he believes the definition of Justice is. And sometimes it does take a whole book to define one word. Maybe in this case it will only be of the lyrics. ^_^

@ MikeDecipher - wow that was impressive, and I am sure Serj would love that too! You know what Serj said once: “I've had people come up to me with the strangest interpretations of what lyrics might mean, and I'm like, 'You go! I never thought of that, but that works,' ... I think true art is a universal reflection, and true artists are just messengers of that reflection - or, at best, skilled presenters.”

I think him switching from "me" to "you" when he says Death in the verse is significant.

Yes, you're right. The lyrics say that when everything is ok in poeple's lives, they are selfish and only think about themselves, it doesn't really matter what form he uses "me" or "they". It's to highlight the fact that we mainly think about oursevels and, however when you get closer to death...then everything changes...we then start seeking help...others....as nobody wants to die alone...

The fact, that these few words motivated people here to write about their meaning (much more words than the lyrics consist of actually) should show you, that Serj's work is not useless. He gets people to really think about life and find their way to go through it (in a better way?)

First I heard the song with the lyrics, I didn't really get what he's talking about. Now I'm impressed to the max, how much this bunch of words can be interpreted in so many and complex ways. Makes me musing 'bout what my life should be, once more. And masterpieces like this can really show you the way to a meaningful life. A good one.

Propably the most stating song with this small amount of words, that has passed my path by now.

i dunno...when i hear this song, it reminds me of like, a baby or something. you know? i guess i'm taking the "arms are raised" part a little too literal. Like, i think of a child and how selfish they are when they're little and all they want is them and they're toys and stuff but as they get older they realize what their guardian or whoever has gone through for them. That's what i think and feel when i hear this song. yeah :)

^That sounds like a really friggin' awesome experience.

Anyway...

While the album itself (which is brilliant) is overtly political in some parts, I think it really touches on a more personal note at various moments, I think the final song itself is very much on that personal level.

Call me simplistic, but I think it's about the ultimate realization that in despite of all the riches and things we have in life, they ultimately mean nothing in the end...and life itself isn't worth living if we don't have people to love and love us in return.

In despite of the suffering of humanity, we've got love and it's really what makes life worth living, and if we would just have it for everybody regardless of our ethnic background, religion, orientation, heritage, or nationality then there wouldn't be all the bullshit conflict in the world.

Too bad that'll never happen.

This is a tough one to interpret for me, but the tone definitely changes when he says "death we know...etc" because of the keyboard chimes in the background and he switches from "me" to "you". Here's my take on that: the song starts out with "arms raised" and "you are there" meaning the speaker has a significant other but he doesn't think about her as being important. The speaker contrasts his own 'self-endearment' with the things he mentions, like achievement, having a significant other, and love. Then the song switches into a more dream-like tone with more intensity from the bells/chimes. At the end the speaker starts talking about 'death' which 'comes to all of us alive,' leading me to believe that the speaker loses a significant other and this event makes him realize his own mortality. I think the speaker is going through the process of becoming aware of the process of dying after he loses someone close to him and the person he loses would otherwise be there to console him and tell him that it's okay because "death comes to all of us alive". The speaker understands the concept, but wishes he could have been more aware of the significance of life, whatever that may be.

Kinda confusing, but maybe you'll see what's going through my mind!

i agree with Raspo, You don't really know how much someone/something means to you until it is gone...
