Lay my bones
At the feet of the ministry
I need the guilt and the company
I need the chance to be judged
And then long forgotten
Lately I just can't shake it
I count the days in seconds and minutes
Hours and hours are subtle as shards of glass
In the skin
So lay with me
I could use the company
You could help me ease
These bones
Are like maps and keys
Where they took their hits
And they felt those teeth
There's a story hidden
Underneath
If you dig in deep
Will you find relief?
For these bones
Shudder all night long
The hammer drops
Another scar
For these bones
But I know
They're only my second home
Naked and under the cover of night
It's just a matter of time 'til I'm
Counted and measured and filed
And then long forgotten
Forgive my manner of speaking
I know it's quick, but the clock is still ticking
And I've got a few words left burning holes on my tongue
I've been saving them
So lay with me
I could use the company
You could help me ease
These bones
Are like maps and keys
Where they took their hits
And they felt those teeth
There's a story hidden
Underneath
If you dig in deep
Will you find relief?
For these bones
Shudder all night long
The hammer drops
Another scar
For these bones
But I know
They're only my second home
No you won't go down alone
No you won't go down alone
No you won't go down alone
No you won't go down alone
So lay with me
I could use the company
You could help me ease
These bones
Are like maps and keys
Where they took their hits
And they felt those teeth
There's a story hidden
Underneath
If you dig in deep
Will you find relief?
These bones
Are like maps and keys
Where they took their hits
And they felt those teeth
There's a story hidden
Underneath
If you dig in deep
Will you find relief?
For these bones
'Cause I know
That you won't go down alone
At the feet of the ministry
I need the guilt and the company

to put it simply, i think that this song is about taking comfort in your faith.
I kinda think this song is about being lonley.
Like its about how someone is lonley and they use meaningless relationships to get over it. i.e. "I need the guilt and the company"
"So lay with me I can use teh company"
they won't go down alone because the other person is jsut using you too... i.e. "it's just a matter of time til I'm counted and measured and filed and then long forgotten."
"I need the chance to be judged and then long forgotten"
subtle shard of glass..
and i think its "naked under the cover of night"
parts of this song remind me of how i feel when i'm having a panic attack...idk why. just the way he sings and the words.
anyways, beyond that, i absolutely LOVE this song. it's just great.
and tounge should be tongue. that's going to bug me.
stump should be scar and
Why the heck do people keep posting lyrics before they have the correct ones? It's so annoying.
i think its better than posting NO lyrics at all actually. atleast they're somewhat right and ready for criticism lol.
love this songg :)
At an individual lyrical level I have to say I have no idea, but the way he repeats the same htings over and over and sings them faster strikes me as significant. Listen to the song and try to notice it.
Perhaps he's saying 'Life is repetitive and it only goes by faster and faster.'
and yeah, on the meaning..this does remind me of taking comfort in your faith, too....i mean, 'you won't go down alone' and 'it's only my second home'...etc.
i'm glad that he says it's only your second home though...because you can't just depend on the fact that you're faithful in the church..but it sounds like he's saying his faith calms him down, 'eases his bones', and i guess having that faith gives him the realization that even though he's being filed and forgotten, at least when it's all over he won't go down alone. it seems like it's a lot about life, too, and it's like as if he's saying that his bones have all of the markings and scars from his life..and how he's got so much to say and so little time..
basically, life is too short.
