White Walls

The thing I love about the "colors" album is that it seems to support individualistic thinking. At least thats what I take from it. I have heard his direct explanations of the lyrics, and the common idea I feel I can grasp from it it that we are all human, we all make mistakes, etc., etc., but I think it addresses the fact that we as humans feel the need to recognize some sort of higher being. No matter what you feel that "higher being" is, you still have to think about it. "Colors" having to do with social diversity and differing beliefs, and no matter what that belief is, it can all converge on common themes. I think his personal interpretation is that we have been GIVEN something, and we haven't exactly made the best of it. It brings forth the ideas of selfish humanistic attitudes and the problems associated with them. Those who are naive and ignorant to this genre of music I have heard label it as depressing and dark and yes, even emo (seriously? Fucking morons... I don't know, I'm just saying, I've heard it), but in reality, I think it is quite the opposite. Take for instance the song "Sun of Nothing"... you have a seemingly depressed, suicidal individual who realizes when it is to late that his mindset about his current life situation is not right. He realizes he had it better than most. Anti-emo in my opinion, and overall an uplifting concept. Almost hopeful. "Prequel to the Sequel" brings forth thoughts of what we could have done with what we were given. The fact that it brings them up now almost motivates the individual who takes the lyrics to heart to make a personal effort to attempt to correct for their previous actions and better themselves as well as mankind.

I won't drag this on any longer unless there is a following post that asks me to expand on these ideas. I think you get my point.

Musically, these are some of the most talented musicians I have ever heard. Most disagree because they listen to "music" for its audiological pleasantness, which has little to do with talent.

On a lighter note, who the hell can play fucking awesome sweeps like that? NO ONE! That's talent. Lyrically, thats talent. Bass=talent. Drum fills and timing... again, amazing talent. Have you ever looked at the timing signatures of this music? Amazing because its insane, yet it all works. I especially love the fact that it doesn't conform to the Verse, Chorus, Verse, Chorus, Bridge, verse, chorus format. It speaks a lot about their amazing originality.

Summary: Awesome music.

its about the bands choice to make the music they want to, not the music that is expected of the genre. they are especially talking about the live scene and that's why the reference earlier songs. the ironic part is white walls is probably the song they are most expected to play at a show anymore.

holy shit...i just listened to this whole album straight through and its possibly one of the greatest albums of metal history. i never would have listened to this band if another one of my favorites (august burns red, check them out) wasnt on tour with them. this is a very different sounding btbam than on alaska, which i bought after hearing this one. colors has many more progressive and less death metal elements. this song sums up all shit in the music industry. people out there to sell out and make money arent as fulfilled as those who make music for the love of it. i love how all the songs flow together- it would be better if the last chord of this song was the first one in foam born, but i can live with that

The lyrics just seem to be a big middle finger to the music industry and musicians who conform to a "popular" sound.

This is my favorite BtBaM song (if i had to pick Just one). Colors is the greatest album ever made, period.

They DO make a point to thank/tribute the various artists that they, themselves, were raised on. The cover album The Anatomy Of Between the Buried and Me shows this passion well. You'll find the likes of King Crimson, Earth Crisis, and even Queen (all of which they do flawlessly, in my opinion)! I, personally, have been INSPIRED by the sheer undeniable talent these cats have shown, especially in a live setting. I have picked up a guitar again (after 10 years without), and I'm even working on my singing voice, just to have as a skill and sing for my kids. I don't wanna be a rock star, fuck rock stars. This band has convinced me that there is a warm and fuzzy feeling about having discipline and doing something good (and doing it well), even if the status-quo doesn't acknowledge it or reward it. Art IS it's own reward. Their stamina and technical skill ARE the stuff of "guitar-Hero-esque" worship. You make a valid point about "directing the audience", Tommy Rogers is doing no less than casting a spell (in the most esoteric sense of the phrase) with the line "We WILL be remembered for this", but there is a fine line between arrogance and confidence. A line they are far from crossing. It should be noted that a. Within the same song they say take this or leave it, it doesn't matter to them, and b. note that the first person to post on this forum is the author himself, who is proactive enough to make an effort to connect with the fans. On the Colors:Live DVD, the only words out of his mouth beside lyrics to the songs are thank you's to the fans. The worship this fanbase gives, they certainly got back that night. I have a brighter outlook on life because of this album, and maybe this seems like mindless ass-kissing to you, but the fact remains, these guys are the most talented quintet of any genre you care to copy-n-paste on them. They will be remembered for this.... white wall.

now my deciphering of screaming lyrics isn't the best but i'm pretty sure that the 9 or so words i hear are what they say there....

I have been having this song for over a month and I still cannot fathom it.

"This is all we have when we die. It's what's left of us when we die. We will be remembered for this."

I get chills here, the vocals are amazing and this is a perfect ending to the album; intensity then simple piano chords.

i kinda got the idea this was about how different the colors album was. i like how they reference camilla rhodes thats pretty kool
